Kaytron Allen

23-Year-Old Running BackRB
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Allen's main challenge as a prospect is offering three-down utility in a league where passing-down viability is emphasized more than ever. Allen (5-11, 216) has completely proven himself as a volume- and power-capable runner after a Penn State career where he ran for 4,180 yards (5.4 YPC) and 39 touchdowns in 54 games. Allen did not produce much as a receiver, though, with teammate Nicholas Singleton easily outpacing Allen's 70 receptions for 490 yards and four touchdowns (69.3-percent catch rate, 4.9 YPT). Allen did not do any pre-draft athletic testing, so it's not clear what kind of tools he might be working with. Given his collegiate stats from scrimmage, though, it would be reasonable to suspect Allen is not particularly fast and is more steady than explosive as a ballcarrier. Steadiness is sometimes just what an offense needs, and a run-heavy offense can appreciate Allen's ability to withstand volume between the tackles, but when it's at the expense of big plays or/and the passing game it probably isn't enough to earn more than a backup role. Allen is realistically fighting for the RB3 or RB4 role in Washington. Read Past Outlooks

Washington selected Allen in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 187th overall.
ANALYSIS
Allen spent his entire four-year college career at Penn State, and he mostly served in a committee with Nicholas Singleton before emerging as the Nittany Lions' lead rusher in 2025. Allen was named to both the All-Big Ten First-Team and All-American Second Team last year, when he turned 210 carries into 1,303 yards (6.2 YPC) and 15 touchdowns while adding 18 catches for 68 yards across 12 games. He is a powerful runner that gets better as the game progresses, and while he doesn't have blazing speed, he has the vision, patience and strength to grind out yards. The Commanders will likely take the committee approach to their backfield under new offensive coordinator David Blough, though Allen will have the opportunity to emerge with a role, with his competition for snaps coming from Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Rachaad White, Jerome Ford and Jeremy McNichols.

Allen could get some opportunities with the starters during OTAs, as Ben Standig of Big 100 Washington D.C. reports that Jacory Croskey-Merritt isn't participating in team drills to begin OTAs.
ANALYSIS
Croskey-Merritt has been dressed but standing on the sidelines, so he may be dealing with an injury. Allen didn't hear his name called until the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, but he landed in a favorable situation, as Washington hasn't devoted many resources to the running back position in recent years. Croskey-Merritt is a 2025 seventh-round pick, while Rachaad White and Jerome Ford, the latter of whom is recovering from a shoulder injury, signed one-year deals with the Commanders in the offseason. Jeremy McNichols and undrafted rookie Robert Henry are also vying for roles in Washington's backfield. Allen notched 2,411 yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground at Penn State over the past two years.
