2026 Fantasy Outlook
McConkey largely seems to be evading blame for his sophomore slump, after the 2025 Chargers offense was torpedoed by a rash of offensive line injuries. That's probably fair, considering McConkey averaged 13.9 PPR points and 8.0 targets over his first 10 games, combining strong volume with passable efficiency (7.9 YPT, 63.8 percent catch rate) despite ceding a lot of slot work to Keenan Allen. It was a different story entirely over his final seven games (including playoffs), with McConkey recording no more than six targets, four catches or 43 yards in any one contest as the Chargers went into a run-first shell to keep Justin Herbert alive. Better injury luck in 2026 would go a long way, but the Chargers aren't counting on that alone, hiring former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel to replace Greg Roman as offensive coordinator. McDaniel is bringing FB Alec Ingold with him from Miami, and the Chargers also signed RB Keaton Mitchell and TE Charlie Kolar this offseason. They clearly intend to run the ball, but it sets up favorably for McConkey in terms of per-target efficiency and weak competition for WR snaps. Read Past Outlooks

Dealing with strained hamstring

Hamstring
June 16, 2026
McConkey said Tuesday that he's tending to a left hamstring strain, Alex Insdorf of BoltBeat.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Jim Harbaugh told Insdorf earlier Tuesday that McConkey was "working through something" and would be limited to individual drills at this week's mandatory minicamp. McConkey clarified the nature of the injury not long afterward, while adding "let's get it healthy and ready to roll for" training camp. Through 32 regular-season games to begin his career, the 2024 second-round pick has tallied 148 catches on 218 targets for 1,938 yards and 13 touchdowns. McConkey will be seeking the second 1,000-yard campaign of his career under the direction of new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.

2025
2024
McConkey arrived in Los Angeles as the 34th overall pick last year and immediately earned a starting job, mostly putting up mediocre receiving lines until a 6-111-2 explosion Week 7. He topped 50 yards in every game from that point forward, with his only instance of single-digit PPR points coming in a game where QB Justin Herbert attempted 18 passes. McConkey's 4.39 speed mostly was on display while picking up extra yards after short and intermediate passes, but he also did well when he got deep shots, catching five of 10 targets 20-plus yards downfield (for 175 yards and two TDs). He then scored an 86-yard TD on a deep ball in a first-round playoff loss, en route to a 9-197-1 receiving line, giving the Chargers one major cause for 2025 optimism on an otherwise ugly afternoon in Houston. The plan moving forward seems to have McConkey as the No. 1 receiver in a run-oriented offense, with the team's major offseason additions being RB Omarion Hampton (first round), WR Tre Harris (second round), WR Keenan Allen (one-year contract) and RB Najee Harris (one-year contract). The biggest drawback is Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman, whose 11 seasons as an NFL playcaller have featured just one instance of his team ranking higher than 28th in pass attempts.
McConkey's college career at Georgia was defined by efficient production on a limited quantity of routes and targets. He never even came close to 400 routes or 100 targets in a season, but he averaged at least 9.3 yards per target and 2.08 yards per route each year while serving as Robin to TE Brock Bowers' Batman. As much as there's no shame in taking a backseat to Bowers, it's fair to have doubts about a guy that reached 500 receiving yards in a season just once and maxed out at 762 (2022, in 15 games). The rest of the profile looks promising, with McConkey having adequate size (6-0, 186) and running a 4.39 40 at the 2024 Combine. Things also went well for him in April, with the WR-deficient Chargers picking McConkey 34th overall. He now has a chance to be an instant-bake No. 1 receiver for a top-10 QB, albeit in a Chargers offense that has sent strong, repeated signals about wanting to run the ball a lot (namely the hiring of OC Greg Roman and jettisoning of WRs Keenan Allen and Mike Williams). The competition at WR is almost laughably weak, consisting of fourth-year pro Joshua Palmer and 2023 first-round pick Quentin Johnston. Maybe the Chargers know something we don't and are confident McConkey and Johnston can get it done. If not, Herbert will spend his age-26 season on a team trying to win with running and defense despite having mediocre talent on defense and a subpar group of RBs.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Tough matchup vs. Kansas City
WRLos Angeles Chargers
December 13, 2025
McConkey has mostly operated out of the slot in 2025, and he could struggle Sunday against a Chiefs defense that has limited targets to players lined up in the slot position this season, Seth Walder of ESPN.com relays.
ANALYSIS
Walder notes that the Chiefs' defense allows targets to the slot just 23 percent of the time -- fifth lowest in the NFL -- and that McConkey has lined up at that position in 62 percent of his offensive snaps this season. The second-year wideout has four receptions or less in each of his last five games and is coming off a one-catch performance against the Eagles in Week 15. If the Chiefs focus on shutting down McConkey, quarterback Justin Herbert will need to turn to other options in the passing game such as Keenan Allen, Quentin Johnston, tight end Oronde Gadsden and running backs Omarion Hampton and Kimani Vidal.
