2025 Fantasy Outlook
Williams followed up his 2024 breakout with a 2025 campaign that featured nearly identical receiving numbers, except over 17 regular-season games instead of 15. He even had the same marks for catch rate (63.7%) and yards per target (11.0) in both seasons, with week-to-week inconsistency proving no obstacle to season-long consistency. It's easy to forget that Williams averaged just 4.8 targets over his first nine games of 2025, before spiking to 7.4 targets per game in the wake of TE Sam LaPorta's season-ending injury. LaPorta had six more targets than Williams (49 to 43) at the time of that injury, with Amon-Ra St. Brown (82) nearly doubling Williams' total. Meanwhile, Detroit's offense declined from elite in 2024 to merely good in 2025, with the offensive line in particular taking a big step back. Blocking could be an issue again, but with RB David Montgomery out of the picture, it looks like the offense will consolidate even more around St. Brown, Williams, LaPorta and Jahmyr Gibbs, with young wideout Isaac TeSlaa perhaps a dark horse to play spoiler and take a chunk out of Williams' usage. Six catches to close out season
Williams secured six of eight targets for 74 yards in the Lions' 19-16 win over the Bears on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Williams played second fiddle to Amon-Ra St. Brown -- who finished with an 11-139-0 line on 15 targets -- but the former managed to close out a career-best season with another solid performance. Williams finally evolved into a well-rounded No. 2 receiver during the second half of the campaign, allowing him to finish with new career highs in receptions (65) and receiving yards (1,117) while also tying a career-best figure in receiving touchdowns (seven) across 17 games. Williams should reprise his role in 2026 alongside St. Brown on the heels of back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
2022
Wide receivers these days almost always break out within their first two seasons or not at all, but Nico Collins proved in 2023 that the third-year breakout isn't totally dead. Williams also has better excuses than most, having suffered an ACL tear at the very end of his college career and then missing the first six games of 2023 for a gambling suspension (ok, maybe that second part isn't such a good excuse...). The other good news? He's still only 23, his elite speed is evident to the naked eye, he'll be playing in a top offense, and the Lions don't have anyone else suited to the WR2 role. Of course, they don't necessarily need the WR2 to be a volume guy given their numerous other weapons, nor have they shown any signs of being the type of team that would force a player targets just because he was a 12th overall pick. Williams will need to earn everything he gets, just as he did as a 20-year-old at Alabama in 2021 (79-1,572-15) following two seasons of obscurity at Ohio State behind Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, there is an outcome where Williams takes a big step forward in 2024 from a real-life standpoint but still doesn't see enough targets to be a reliable fantasy starter, as he'll still be in an offense that wants to feed WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, TE Sam LaPorta and RBs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. While a truly elite player could force his way into that picture, Williams appears more on track to land somewhere between 'star' and 'bust'.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Might be poised for breakout
Williams appears poised to take another step forward in 2025 according to the Lions' new offensive coordinator John Morton, Colton Pouncy of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Williams had a slow start to his career but had a breakout performance in 2024, when he delivered 58 receptions for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns over 15 regular-season games. Detroit's offense could regress following the departure of OC Ben Johnson however, and Williams still faces significant competition for touches from the likes of Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta. As a result, Williams will likely be dependent on splash plays again to account for the majority of his production after averaging 17.3 yards per reception in the 2024 regular season.
