Drake Maye

23-Year-Old QuarterbackQB
New England Patriots
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Maye’s first full season as a starter went better than even Patriots fans imagined. He finished QB2 in fantasy, was second in MVP voting and took New England to the Super Bowl. Maye’s league-leading 72.0 completion percentage was the sixth highest in NFL history, all the more impressive considering his average target depth was 9.1 yards -- the highest of any QB in the top 20 all-time for completion rate. Maye threw 10-plus yards downfield at the fifth-highest rate in the league (37.2%), also ranking third in completion percentage on attempts of 20-plus yards (52.1%). He led the league with 8.9 YPA, solidly ahead of second-place Sam Darnold (8.5 YPA). In addition to finishing fourth in passing yards (4,394) and third in TD passes (31), Maye's rushing production vaulted him up the fantasy rankings. He was fourth among QBs with 450 rushing yards, adding four scores. He benefited from an easy schedule, however. The Patriots didn’t face a top-10 defense until the playoffs, and in the Super Bowl against the league’s best defense, Maye got smoked. He’ll play a first-place schedule this year, but his rushing production should hold up since nearly all of it came from his league-high 62 scrambles (he also had the highest scramble rate - 10.3%). The A.J. Brown trade will help mitigate regression, not only in terms of passing stats but also for the Patriots in general. The team also signed Romeo Doubs, ensuring solid depth behind Brown even though Stefon Diggs has moved on. Maye is good enough and mobile enough to maintain his place among the top-five fantasy QBs even without a perfect situation around him, but that might require more volume to account for the difficulty of matching last year's blistering efficiency. Pats add new No. 1 wideout
QBNew England Patriots
June 1, 2026
Maye has a new No. 1 wide receiver after the Patriots traded for A.J. Brown from the Eagles on Monday, Evan Lazar of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The deal did not become official until June 1 due to Philadelphia's salary-cap considerations, but it now caps what has been an exceptionally productive offseason for Maye and New England's offense. A three-time All-Pro and true alpha target for Maye, Brown is an upgrade over departed 2025 team receiving leader Stefon Diggs. Brown joins a capable No. 2 option in Romeo Doubs, who inked a four-year deal in free agency, plus TE Hunter Henry and returning WRs Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas and Kyle Williams. Maye, who has fully recovered from the shoulder injury he played through in Super Bowl XL against the Rams, thus looks primed for another step forward after finishing as the MVP runner-up in 2025. Across 17 regular-season appearances last year, he threw for 4,384 yards and a 31:8 TD:INT while adding 450 yards and four touchdowns on 103 carries. Maye figures to be one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in 2026 fantasy drafts, and his dual-threat skill set paired with New England's revamped receiving corps gives him the upside to justify those expectations.

2024
Maye, the third pick in the 2024 Draft, began last season behind Jacoby Brissett but took over the starting job for good by Week 6. He fought through knee and hand injuries and a concussion, plus he struggled with interceptions (3.0 INT percentage, seventh-highest), but overall he did enough to inspire much hope among the Patriots faithful. Maye’s 72.8 on-target percentage ranked 18th, and his 66.6 completion percentage was 13th. That was built on a lot of short passes, though. His average target depth was 7.3 yards (23rd), with nearly 70 percent of his attempts going less than 10 yards downfield. It’s perhaps surprising Maye’s strong arm wasn’t put to better use, but the Patriots lacked downfield weapons -- well, any weapons -- and the coaching staff was so ineffective that it got flushed after just one season. Proven offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, back in New England for the third time, should greatly benefit Maye, and the Patriots upgraded their roster with free agents WR Stefon Diggs (assuming he’s healthy after an ACL injury last year), RT Morgan Moses and C Garrett Bradbury. They then drafted LT Will Campbell (fourth overall), RB TreVeyon Henderson (38th) and WR Kyle Williams (69th). The latter’s 4.4 speed may give Maye the deep threat he lacked last year. Maye also has good wheels (7.8 YPC on 54 rushes) and loves to scramble, which may be his ticket to establishing value in single-QB leagues.
The Patriots made Maye the third overall pick in this year’s draft, hoping he’s the QB of the future that Mac Jones failed to be. Jones, the 15th overall pick in 2021, was traded in March to Jacksonville. Maye will compete for the starting job with free-agent acquisition Jacoby Brissett. Even if Maye isn’t the Week 1 starter, he likely will be under center at some point. At 6-4, 223, Maye has prototypical size, with a strong and talented arm that can both attack defenses deep and slip balls into tight windows. Scouts praised his vision and anticipation, and he’s an athletic dual threat who rushed for 1,147 yards and 16 TDs his last two years at North Carolina. Maye is a bit of a gunslinger, prone to ill-advised passes, and inconsistent mechanics and poor footwork at times hurt his accuracy, especially on routine short throws. But the Patriots have time to develop that while Brissett handles QB duty. The bigger issue is a lack of playmakers. The WR depth chart is topped by Kendrick Borne, who is coming off an ACL injury, and Demario Douglas, a 2023 sixth-round pick who failed to score last season. Second-round rookie Ja’Lynn Polk might already be the best wide receiver, and tight end Hunter Henry could be the No. 2 target. Maye, however, at least gives the Patriots hope in the post-Belichick era.

Already clicking with Brown
QBNew England Patriots
June 12, 2026
Maye and recent trade addition A.J. Brown have quickly built chemistry over their first two weeks working together, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brown just joined the Patriots in a blockbuster trade with the Eagles on June 1, and the timing of the move allowed Maye and the veteran wideout to immediately begin on-field work. New England conducted its mandatory minicamp to wrap up Brown's second week with the team, and the duo connected frequently, including for a picturesque touchdown in the back left corner of the end zone during Thursday's practice. "It's hard not to get excited," Maye said. "What a player he is, and just right off the bat, what a great teammate so far."
