Bound for NFL
Maye announced Monday that he will forgo his remaining eligibility at North Carolina to enter the 2024 NFL Draft, Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Maye's decision to leave school early comes as little surprise, as he could be the second quarterback off the board in this year's draft behind USC's Caleb Williams, who profiles as the presumptive No. 1 overall pick. After serving in a backup role as a true freshman in 2021 behind Sam Howell, Maye stepped in as the Tar Heels' starter as a redshirt freshman in 2022 and accounted for 45 touchdowns over his 14 outings. He saw his numbers decline slightly in 2023, but he still completed 269 of 425 pass attempts (63.3 percent) for 3,608 yards, 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions while adding 449 yards and nine scores on the ground to solidify his standing as one of the top signal-callers in the draft class.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
After sitting behind the current Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell his freshman year, Maye burst onto the scene with a massive sophomore year throwing for 4,321 yards 38 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Maye now comes into the 2023 season as a Heisman front runner and with tons of NFL Draft buzz. Maye however will be without his leading receiver from last season Josh Downs. Downs accounted for nearly a quarter of the team’s 4,300+ passing yards last season. With the lack of a dependable wide receiver Maye’s numbers may slip a bit but he is as talented as any quarterback in college football.
