DraftKings NFL: The Value Bin

DraftKings NFL: The Value Bin

This article is part of our DraftKings NFL series.

When playing daily fantasy football on DraftKings, you must find players you like at a cheap price. Last week, I selected my Dream Team. If you want to utilize any of those players, finding value is a must. Here is my all-value team for week one.

The Value Bin Team (Salary - $32,400/$50,000, -$17,600)

QB One

Shaun Hill – Min@StL ($5,000) – It appears that Sam Bradford (knee) is out for the season, again. Hill should slide into the starting job, unless the Rams make a very quick move to get a new signal caller. Hill gets a prime matchup at home in Week 1 against one of the worst passing defenses in the league. He has shown in the past that he has the potential for putting up big numbers when coming in as a backup. At $5,000, he makes a great value as a starting quarterback against a really bad pass defense. I would not use him in head-to-head or 50/50 contests, but you should take a flyer on him for some of your Guaranteed Price Pool (GPP) contests.

QB Alternate: Chad Henne – Jax@Phi ($5,200)

Running Backs

Danny Woodhead – SD@Ari ($3,700) – Woodhead was a point-per-reception (ppr) monster in 2013 with 81 receptions. That is a huge boost on DraftKings because the site awards a full point per reception. He is a great price and should pay off with his receptions alone. The rushing and potential for touchdowns is a nice added bonus. Woodhead should be an option in all contest types.

Andre Williams – NYG@Det ($3,700) – The word out of Giant's camp is that Andre Williams will be their main goal-line back. If that is the case, Williams makes a very strong GPP play. He will probably not accumulate many points with yards or receptions, but he could put up a touchdown or two.

RB Alternates: Legarrette Blount – Cle@Pit ($3,800), Jonathan Stewart – Car@TB ($3,300)

Wide Receivers

Doug Baldwin – GB@Sea *Thursday Game ($3,500) – Baldwin is a very good value at $3,500. He should be Seattle's starting wide receiver in Week 1 and gets a decent matchup at home against the Packers.

*Thursday GPP Contests – When playing GPP tournaments that start on Thursday night, I generally like to fade (not use) the players in the Thursday game. These players will be higher owned than they should because people like to have some action on the game. If you fade those players and they underperform, you are instantly at an advantage over a good portion of the field.

Markus Wheaton – Cle@Pit ($3,300) – Wheaton is a very popular breakout pick among fantasy prognosticators. He is a big-play guy, so he is better suited for GPP contests over head-to-head and 50/50's until he can prove to be a reliable fantasy option on a weekly basis.

Marqise Lee – Jax@Phi ($3,500) – The Jag's receiver corps is already banged up. Lee may be the last one standing by Week 1 against my No. 1 easiest pass defense, the Eagles. Philly should be able to put up points against the Jaguars, forcing the Jags to pass a lot. Lee should be a huge benefactor.

WR Alternates: Rod Streater – Oak@NYJ ($3,400), Jordan Matthews - Jax@Phi ($3,800), Kenbrell Thompkins – NE@Mia ($3,800)

Tight End

Ladarius Green – SD@Ari ($3,200) – Green gets a great matchup in Week 1 against the worst defense versus tight ends in 2013. Green has big-play ability and makes a very solid GPP play at a reduced salary.

TE Alternate: Travis Kelce – Ten@KC ($3,200)

Flex

Jordan Matthews - Jax@Phi ($3,800) – I really like this kid. He has the ability to do just about anything on the field. Eagles head coach Chip Kelly will find a way to utilize Matthews' skills.

Defense/Special Teams

Minnesota Vikings – Min@StL ($2,700) – As indicated above, the Vikings get to go against a backup quarterback in Week 1 (Hill). The Vikings defense is not good, but they are a solid value at the fourth cheapest defense.

DST Alternate: Cowboys – SF@Dal ($1,900)
