Hot and Cold (10/13): Highs and Lows From Week 6

This article is part of our Hot and Cold series.

ACC

Hot

Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor has thrown for just a total of 284 yards in his last two games, but he has also run for 248 yards over that span. Taylor has recorded three total touchdowns each of the last two weeks and has picked up at least two in four of his six games this year.

North Carolina's football program has been in turmoil for most of the season, but that has not stopped running back Johnny White from having a breakout senior year. White has recorded at least 99 total yards in each of his last four games and has scored four times over that span.

Cold

After throwing two touchdown passes in each of his first three games, Clemson quarterback Kyle Parker has tossed just one over his last two games and has thrown for just 363 total yards over that span.

North Carolina running back Shaun Draughn had a huge game in Week 5, but he received eight or fewer carries in each of the other three games he has appeared in. Johnny White is the North Carolina running back to own.

Big 12

Hot

Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez is just 12th in the Big 12 in passing yards, but he is also leading the conference with 737 rushing yards. Martinez has also been a touchdown machine, scoring 15 so far this year (12 rushing).

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin has scored six touchdowns on the ground himself, but he is also putting up huge

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin has scored six touchdowns on the ground himself, but he is also putting up huge numbers through the air. Griffin threw for at least 380 yards in each of his last two games and picked up four total touchdowns in each contest. Griffin has scored 19 total touchdowns in six games this season.

Cold

Texas A&M wide receiver Uzoma Nwachukwu had a big freshman season last year, but he has been very quiet through five games in 2010. Nwachukwu has been held to two catches or fewer in four games and has yet to record more than 60 receiving yards in a game.

Kansas quarterback Jordan Webb threw three touchdown passes in his first career start, but he has thrown just three total over his last three games and has thrown for more than 179 yards in a game just once.

Big East

Hot

Louisville running back Bilal Powell had never been a primary back before this season, but that has not stopped him from being a big producer in his senior year. Powell has scored at least once in every game this season, and over the last two weeks, he has recorded over 400 total yards and scored four touchdowns.

Connecticut running back Jordan Todman had a big 2009 season, but he has been even better this year. Todman has recorded over 100 rushing yards in each of the five games he has appeared in and scored eight touchdowns.

Cold

South Florida quarterback B.J. Daniels has yet to get on track this season. He has not thrown for more than 155 yards in any of his last four games and has scored just three total touchdowns against seven interceptions over that span. He will need to play much better to knock off West Virginia on Thursday night.

Victor Anderson has taken a back seat to Bilal Powell in the Louisville backfield. Anderson scored 14 times over the last two seasons, but he has yet to reach the end zone this season and has been held under 35 yards in three of his five games.

Big Ten

Hot

Teammate John Clay entered the season as a Heisman candidate, but that has not stopped Wisconsin running back James White from being a productive fantasy player as well. White has recorded over 100 total yards in each of his last three games and has scored eight times over that span.

Northwestern wide receiver Jeremy Ebert caught just 21 passes last season, but he has burst onto the scene this year. Ebert is leading the conference with 560 receiving yards and has put up double-digit fantasy points in all but one of his six games.

Cold

Penn State running back Evan Royster appeared to have turned things around in Weeks 3 and 4, but his production over the last couple games has slipped again. Royster has run for just 91 total yards in those games and has been held under 60 yards in five of six games this season.

Royster is not the only Nittany Lion that is struggling. After tossing two touchdowns in his first career start, freshman quarterback Robert Bolden has thrown that many in his previous five games.

Conference USA

Hot

UTEP wide receiver Kris Adams has put up huge numbers the last two weeks. Over that span, Adams has caught ten passes for 275 yards and five touchdowns. Adams is on pace to at least match the 14 touchdowns he scored two seasons ago.

Tulsa quarterback G.J. Kinne may have been held without a touchdown pass last week for the first time this season, but he still managed to score two rushing touchdowns. Kinne has thrown for at least 214 yards and scored at least two touchdowns in every game. He has recorded 16 total touchdowns this season.

Cold

Freshman quarterback Terrance Broadway was given the first chance to replace the injured Case Keenum at Houston, but he was only average in his one start and was replaced by fellow frosh David Piland last week. Piland threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns and will likely hold onto the starting job for the time being.

Houston wide receiver Tyron Carrier recorded over 1,000 receiving yards in each of the last two seasons, but he is on pace for only half that this year. The loss of Case Keenum has really hurt the fantasy value of the Houston wide receivers, and Carrier's value has suffered the most so far.

Independents

Hot

Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd has recorded double-digit fantasy points in three of his last four games. He has recorded over 100 yards in a game just once this season, but he has not been held to less than 59 yards in any game, either.

Cold

Army spreads the ball among a number of running backs, but Patrick Mealy has gotten lost in the shuffle. After running for 673 yards last year, Mealy is on pace to rush for fewer than 400 yards this year; and he has not received a carry in two of the Black Knights' previous three games.

MAC

Hot

Bowling Green running back Willie Geter has not had a huge season, but he has been consistent. Geter has recorded at least ten fantasy points in all but one of his six games this season and is on pace to top the 1,113 total yards he put up last season.

Toledo wide receiver Eric Page got off to a bit of a slow start, but has picked things up lately. Page has recorded 374 receiving yards and two touchdowns over his last four games.

Cold

Aaron Pankratz took over the starting quarteback position for Bowling Green in Week 3 after Matt Schilz got hurt, but Pankratz struggled in his three games as the starter, completing just 46.6 percent of his passes and throwing five interceptions. Schilz was given the job back in Week 6, so don't count on Pankratz being a fantasy factor any longer.

Kent State wide receiver Tyshon Goode put up 755 yards and five touchdowns in his freshman season, but his sophomore campaign has been much less productive. Goode scored his first touchdown last week, but he was limited to just 26 receiving yards. Goode has yet to reach double figures in fantasy points in any game this season.

MWC

Hot

BYU running back JJ Di Luigi is putting up big numbers every week. Di Luigi has recorded over 100 total yards in each of the Cougars' six games and has scored a touchdown in all but one contest.

Teammate Ed Wesley is leading the MWC in rushing, but TCU running back Matthew Tucker has also been a productive fantasy player. Tucker has recorded double-digit fantasy points in four of his last five games and has scored five touchdowns this season.

Cold

BYU quarterback Jake Heaps was considered by many to be the top freshman quarterback in the nation entering the season, but he has found adjusting to the college game a difficult task. Heaps has tossed just one touchdown pass in six games this season, and things could get really rough this week on the road at TCU.

The return of Jordan Wynn has put a huge damper on Utah quarterback Terrance Cain's fantasy value. Cain threw five touchdown passes while filling in for Wynn in Weeks 2 and 3, but Wynn has thrived since returning and won't lose the starting spot without another injury.

Pac 10

Hot

Jahvid Best put up big running numbers for California over the last couple years, but the Golden Bears have not missed him thanks to running back Shane Vereen, who has put up 696 total yards and ten touchdowns in five games this season.

Like California, Stanford has not suffered much of a drop off in the running game despite losing the machine-like Toby Gerhart to the NFL. Running back Stepfan Taylor has recorded over 100 total yards in each of his last three games and has put up double-digit fantasy points in five of his six games.

Cold

Arizona running back Nic Grigsby scored five touchdowns in his first two games, but he has scored just one in his last three games and has been held to 75 total yards or less each time.

Stanford wide receiver Ryan Whalen led the team in receiving last season, but he has done almost nothing over the last four weeks. Whalen missed Weeks 4 and 5 with an injury, but he only caught three passes for 27 yards in the two games he appeared in.

SEC

Hot

South Carolina wide receiver Alshon Jeffery recorded 306 yards in his first three games this season, but he has really burst onto the scene lately. Jeffery caught 15 passes for 319 yards and four touchdowns in his last two games - including a 127-yard, two-touchdown performance in South Carolina's big upset victory over Alabama.

Kentucky's Randall Cobb is listed as a wide receiver, but he is also capable of making big plays out of the Wildcat formation, as evidenced by his two rushing touchdowns last week. Cobb has scored at least touchdown in every game this season, and with Derrick Locke doubtful for this week's game, Cobb should see even more touches.

Cold

Florida quarterback John Brantley is finding replacing Tim Tebow to be a difficult task. Brantley has thrown just two touchdowns over his last four games, and none over his last two. Brantley is now a bit banged up too, so it is a good idea to leave him on the bench until he proves he is healthy, productive, or both.

It was not totally unexpected, but the return of Mark Ingram has cut into Alabama running back Trent Richardson's production. Richardson has recorded just 98 total yards over his last two games and has not scored since Week 4.

Sun Belt

Hot

North Texas running back Lance Dunbar has run for over 100 yards in each of his last two games and has put up double-digit fantasy points in four of his six games this season.

Florida Atlantic running back Alfred Morris is not racking up rushing yardage like he did a year ago, but he did explode for 153 yards and two touchdowns in Week 6 and has scored at least one touchdown in four of his five games.

Cold

Florida Atlantic wide receiver Lester Jean caught 15 passes for 263 yards in his first two games, but he has been limited to just 150 total receiving yards and zero touchdowns over the last three weeks.

Middle Tennessee running back Philip Tanner had a 100-yard effort in Week 4, but that game was sandwiched by two games in which Tanner put up a total of just 34 yards and no scores.

WAC

Hot

Hawaii wide receiver Greg Salas put up 1,590 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 2009, but his recent performance has put him on pace to top both numbers this year. Over the last three weeks, Salas has caught 26 passes for a ridiculous 476 yards and seven touchdowns.

Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick continues to be a fantasy beast. Kaepernick has recorded over 250 total yards in five of his six games this season and has scored at least two touchdowns in every contest. Kaepernick has 19 total touchdowns this season.

Cold

Nevada tight end Virgil Green caught three touchdown passes in the first two games, but he has been limited to just eight receptions for 105 yards and no scores in the four games since.

New Mexico State running back Seth Smith ran for 1,016 yards last year, but he has just 181 yards through five games this season and has been held out of the end zone in three of his five games.
