Yahoo DFS Basketball: Wednesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Basketball: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

We're looking at a busy night in the NBA with 10 games on the schedule Wednesday. That leaves us with a ton of options to wade through in DFS, so let's get right to it and discuss some players to consider, as well as a few to possibly avoid.

GUARDS

Ja Morant, MEM at POR ($36): Morant is coming off of a strong performance against a defensive-minded team in the Suns in which he produced 17 points, three rebounds, 10 assists and two steals. He also logged 34 minutes, which is encouraging given his recent absence because of an ankle injury. With no playing time restrictions moving forward, he could thrive against a Blazers team that has allowed the fifth-most points per game in the league.

Patty Mills, SA at GS ($11): Mills lit up the aforementioned porous Blazers' defense in his last game Monday, scoring 21 points across 24 minutes. He drained five of his seven three-point attempts, marking his 11th game of the season with multiple makes from deep. Although he provides basically nothing in terms of rebounds and defensive stats, his scoring upside is intriguing against a Warriors team that has played at the third-fastest pace.

Guard to Avoid

Kemba Walker, BOS at PHI ($24): Walker made his season debut against the Knicks on Sunday and it wasn't pretty. He shot just 3-for-13 from the field, including 1-for-8 from behind the arc. He also played just 20 minutes. He should remain limited in this contest, so be sure to keep him out of your entry.

FORWARDS

DeMar DeRozan, SA at GS ($35): DeRozan has been a steady source of production, scoring at least 35 Yahoo points in all but one game that he has played this season. His ability to contribute in multiple areas also leaves him with significant upside, too, which is evident by the fact that he has scored at least 44.4 Yahoo points seven times. With the Warriors playing at such a fast pace, DeRozan could once again thrive.

Xavier Tillman, MEM at POR ($11): Tillman made his first career start Monday with Jonas Valanciunas (COVID-19) sidelined. He took advantage of his opportunity, scoring 22.7 Yahoo points across 29 minutes. Even though he's mostly played limited minutes off the bench, he's now scored at least 20.7 Yahoo points in five straight games. With the expectation that he starts again Wednesday, he's very appealing at near the minimum salary.

Forward to Avoid

Nicolas Batum, LAC vs. SAC ($16): Batum has been a surprisingly valuable addition for the Clippers and has remained a member of the starting five despite the return of Marcus Morris from injury. The problem is that Batum isn't very involved in the offense, leaving him with a 12.7 percent usage rate. If you're looking for a forward in this salary range, Eric Gordon ($16) carries far more upside with James Harden no longer in town.

CENTERS

Christian Wood, HOU vs. PHO ($38): Wood is on a roll, scoring at least 42.3 Yahoo points in three straight games. He scored at least 24 points in all three of those contests and should continue to have an expanded role in the offense with Harden gone. Even though Victor Oladipo and Gordon played Monday against the Bulls, he still attempted 16 shots. Also of note is that John Wall (knee) will once again be sidelined, which should leave Wood with a heavy offensive workload.

DeAndre Jordan, BKN at CLE ($15): It's been three games since Jordan reclaimed the starting center job for the Nets and he scored at least 32.4 Yahoo points in two of those contests. In those two games, he posted at least 12 rebounds and two blocks both times. His scoring upside might remain limited, but at this cheap salary, he could still provide value.

Center to Avoid

Jarrett Allen, CLE vs. BKN ($25): Allen is expected to finally make his debut for the Cavaliers, although his production potential has been greatly reduced by the move. He's now stuck behind Andre Drummond and won't have a clear path to significant playing time unless Drummond is eventually traded. On a night with so many other viable options, rolling with Allen makes little sense at this salary.
