2026 Fantasy Outlook
Fannin dominated the Mid-American Conference in 2024 with 117 catches for 1,555 yards and 10 touchdowns, and it turns out the jump to NFL-level competition wasn’t too much of a challenge for him. A third-round pick, Fannin earned a large role immediately and ended up leading the Browns in all major receiving categories (72 catches for 731 yards and six TD catches on 107 targets). The 6-foot-4, 241-pound rookie promptly displaced David Njoku as the team’s top pass catcher at tight end, with Njoku then released this offseason. Last year, Fannin ranked fifth among NFL TEs with 107 targets on just 417 routes run (tied for 10th-most), which speaks to the dearth of appetizing alternatives in Cleveland’s passing game. Only 10 of those targets came in the red zone, with three inside the 10-yard line, so Fannin’s scoring opportunities may remain limited even if he's the team's best receiving weapon near the goal line. The Browns did add some competition there, bolstering their WR room with top-40 draft picks KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston. Now they just need to figure out who's slinging the rock, choosing among Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders, Taylen Green or Dillon Gabriel. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
Fannin sat out the Browns' 2025 season finale against the Bengals due to a groin injury, but he's moved past the issue. The second-year tight end sits firmly atop a depth chart which no longer includes David Njoku, who remains a free agent, and as a rookie last year Fannin recorded a team-high 72 catches on 107 targets for 731 yards and six TDs in 16 regular-season contests. With Njoku no longer in the mix, Fannin should have an opportunity to improve on those numbers given the unproven options behind him at the position for Cleveland.

Fannin was drafted in the third round, 67th overall, by the Browns after posting video-game numbers at Bowling Green in 2024. He produced 117 catches for 1,555 yards and 10 touchdowns in 13 games while adding nine rushing attempts for 65 yards and one touchdown for good measure. The 6-foot-3, 241-pound TE is on the small side for his position, so it’s concerning that he ran the 40-yard dash in an unimpressive 4.71 seconds. He has excellent hands and a natural feel for both getting open and wreaking havoc with the ball in his hands, but Fannin will need to prove that he has not only enough blocking acumen to earn a prominent role but also enough athleticism to beat NFL defenders, who will present a massive increase in difficulty compared to the defenses he faced in the Mid-American Conference. Fannin’s unlikely to challenge David Njoku for the starting role right away, but the rookie has plenty of long-term upside and could step up in 2025 if the oft-injured Njoku misses any action.

Team's clear TE1 after Njoku cut
Fannin is set to operate as the clear top tight end for the Browns in 2026, as Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports that Cleveland released David Njoku on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Fannin led the Browns with 731 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns as a rookie in 2025 before missing the season finale due to a groin injury, while Njoku had just 293 yards and four touchdowns while being limited to 12 games by injuries. Njoku averaged 672 receiving yards and five touchdowns over the preceding three regular seasons and would have been a candidate to cut into Fannin's production if healthy in 2026, but Njoku's release leaves Fannin atop a depth chart that doesn't currently include another tight end with more than 28 career regular-season catches.
