After a wild day in the NBA that saw postponements because of COVID-19 and a monster four-team trade, things should quiet down a bit Thursday with only four games on the schedule. There is still money to be one won Yahoo, though, so let's examine some players to consider for your entry, as well as a few to possibly avoid.
GUARDS
Malcolm Brogdon, IND at POR ($37): For the first time in a while, Brogdon had a bad performance when the Pacers faced the Warriors on Tuesday. He still chipped in eight assists, two steals and a block, but he only scored 13 points on 5-for-18 shooting from the field. The Pacers will need him to bounce back quickly here since they traded away Victor Oladipo for Caris LeVert, who likely won't be eligible to play. Look for Brogdon to thrive while logging plenty of minutes against a Blazers team that has allowed the fifth-most points per game in the league.
Duncan Robinson, MIA at PHI ($16): Depth will continue to be an issue for the Heat with several players currently in the league's health and safety protocols. With so few players available Tuesday against these same Sixers, Robinson exploded with 26 points and six three-pointers across 46 minutes. Don't expect him to provide much in the way of rebounds and assists, but his high minutes floor means that he could once again score in bunches.
Guard to Avoid
Monte Morris, DEN vs. GS ($12): Morris has limited upside coming off the bench for the Nuggets, so even though his salary isn't all that high, this might not be the night to deploy him. With teams dealing with depth issues, there are others in this salary range who could provide more value. For example, Aaron Holiday ($12) could start for the Pacers while Ben McLemore ($10) will likely see added playing time for the short-handed Rockets.
FORWARDS
Pascal Siakam, TOR vs. CHA ($35): After a fairly quiet start, Siakam may have hit his stride, scoring at least 40.7 Yahoo points in four straight games. He's remained a potent scorer, but he's also stepped up his role as a facilitator, averaging 5.1 assists a game this season. Playing a Hornets team that lacks size up front could leave him with another juicy stat line.
Eric Gordon, HOU at SA ($14): This one will require some monitoring since Gordon (leg) is listed as questionable. However, if he plays, his upside is off the charts. James Harden is no longer in town, Oladipo likely won't be eligible to play and John Wall (knee) has been ruled out. That leaves the Rockets not only with limited guard depth, but also with few potent scoring options.
Forward to Avoid
Carmelo Anthony, POR vs. IND ($17): Even on a night with so few games, Anthony isn't very appealing. Outside of a rare 35-minute game against the Raptors on Monday, he's logged 28 minutes or fewer in every game this season. The result has been an average of just 21.3 Yahoo points per contest. A much more appealing option who is available at an even cheaper salary is Precious Achiuwa ($13), who scored 37.1 Yahoo points in his last game and should see added playing time again based on the Heat's roster issues.
CENTERS
Christian Wood, HOU at SA ($34): The Rockets were torched by the Lakers on Tuesday, which contributed to Wood playing only 26 minutes. The result was him scoring a season-low 27.1 Yahoo points. With that being said, he's averaging 22.6 points and 9.5 rebounds and should receive all of the shot attempts that he can handle in this contest, so expect him to bounce back in a big way.
Chris Boucher, TOR vs. CHA ($22): Even though the Raptors are still not starting Boucher, that could change in the near future -- either way, his playing time is trending in the right direction. He logged 32 minutes in his last game against the Blazers, which marked the fourth time that he has played at least 28 minutes in a game this season. After scoring at least 40.1 Yahoo points in all four of those contests, the Raptors might be wise to play him more. Despite his rising salary, he could still provide excellent value if his expanded role continues.
Center to Avoid
James Wiseman, GS at DEN ($17): Not much to say here. Wiseman is only averaging 21 minutes a night, which has resulted in him scoring 22.8 Yahoo points or fewer in eight of his last nine games. Facing a Nuggets team that has allowed the sixth-fewest Yahoo points per game to opposing centers likely won't help his cause.
