2025 Fantasy Outlook
A second-round pick, Shough (pronounced “shuck”) was the third QB selected in this year’s draft. He was plagued by injuries in his seven-year college career, finally staying healthy enough last season to throw for 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns at Louisville. He completed only 62.7 percent of his passes, making accuracy a concern, especially downfield. At 6-foot-5, 219 pounds, Shough has good size with a strong arm and solid mechanics, but he's not as mobile as his 4.61 40 might seem to suggest. He’ll also turn 26 a few weeks into the season, which likely limits his room for growth. Even so, he’s the probable Week 1 starter after Derek Carr abruptly retired in May. The Saints likely will look into signing a veteran, as Shough, Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener were the only QBs on the roster at the time of Carr's retirement. If Shough finds himself under center, he’ll have a few good receiving options, namely Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. Alvin Kamara likely will handle a lot of the workload for new head coach Kellen Moore, who likes to lean on his running backs, confining Shough to a game-manager role. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Strong finish to rookie campaign
Shough completed 23 of 35 passes for 259 yards with one touchdown and one interception while rushing three times for 34 yards and another score in the Saints' 19-17 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Shough was able to head into the offseason with yet another encouraging outing, capping off a second half of the season in which the 2025 second-round pick cemented himself as the Saints' starter heading into 2026. Shough opened New Orleans' scoring with a one-yard run late in the second quarter, and he went on to add a 16-yard scoring toss with just over a minute remaining that featured a nifty one-handed catch from Ronnie Bell. Shough finished his rookie season having completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 2,384 yards and a 10:6 TD:INT while adding a 45-186-3 rushing line across 11 games.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Making case to be new franchise QB
Shough's performance as a rookie could cause the Saints to focus on positions other than quarterback in the 2026 and 2027 NFL Drafts, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
ANALYSIS
New Orleans has won four straight games with Shough under center, and the second-round pick has been impressive over that stretch, completing 71.1 percent of his passes for 8.3 yards per attempt with six total touchdowns against just one turnover. The Saints could still wind up with a top-10 pick in the 2026 Draft, and the following year's class could be flush with future stars at QB like Arch Manning, but Shough's development gives the team the luxury of not having to chase the position and instead devote resources to building up the roster around him.
