2024 Fantasy Outlook
Rattler was the third selection of the Saints in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he's likely in the cards for the team's future plans at quarterback. However, the fifth-round pick will immediately contend for the backup role behind starting signal-caller Derek Carr. With Jameis Winston gone to Cleveland, Rattler will contend with journeyman Nathan Peterman and 2021 fourth-round pick Jake Haener, the latter of whom has yet to make his NFL debut. Rattler started his collegiate career with high expectations at Oklahoma before losing his job to Caleb Williams in 2021, and he finished with a 19:8 TD:INT at South Carolina in 2023. RANKS
Impressive in NFL debut
Rattler completed 22 of 40 passes for 243 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in the Saints' 51-27 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday. He also rushed four times for 27 yards and fumbled once but recovered.
ANALYSIS
The rookie fifth-round pick did not look out of his element despite facing a veteran defense with aggressive tendencies. Rattler recorded his first touchdown pass via a 10-yard strike to Bub Means just before the midway point of the second quarter, and he continued battling throughout the game despite the game eventually getting away from New Orleans. Reports earlier Sunday indicated Derek Carr (oblique) could be down for up to four games, so Rattler projects for another start Thursday night at home against the Broncos.

ANALYSIS
Rattler will make his NFL debut in place of Derek Carr, who injured his oblique in the Week 5 loss to Kansas City. The 2024 fifth-round draft pick out of South Carolina gets the nod over Jake Haener. Carr's expected to miss multiple games, but Rattler will likely need to hit a certain baseline level of effectiveness to maintain the job over Haener for the duration of Carr's absence.
