2026 Fantasy Outlook
Johnson is a subpackage specialist for the Bills -- a firecracker off the bench who runs designated routes in passing situations to the point that he's almost like a RB-WR hybrid to the Bills rather than a true RB2 behind starter James Cook. It's worth making the distinction because while fantasy investors often look to the RB2 on any given depth chart as the handcuff pick for the starting running back in question, Johnson probably isn't the handcuff pick even though he's the RB2. There's a role for Johnson but not RB3 Ray Davis when Cook is healthy, but if Cook isn't available then most of Cook's tasks are better suited to Davis. Johnson will remain a constant presence in the Bills offense, but if more opportunity arises it still might present a scaling opportunity for Johnson's otherwise strong per-snap numbers. Past ankle injury
Johnson (ankle) is participating in OTAs, Jeffrey Barnes of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnson missed the Bills' two playoff games back in January but is now 100 percent healthy. He should again handle the pass-game, change-of-pace role behind James Cook in 2026 after Buffalo did nothing to address the running back room over the offseason. Johnson carried the ball 50 times for 200 yards and three touchdowns and added a 24-263-2 line as a receiver across 17 regular-season contests last season.

Johnson is coming off his most productive campaign since 2021, as he amassed 497 scrimmage yards over 17 regular-season games with a career-high four touchdowns, including three through the air. The Bills backfield remains crowded headed into 2025, with James Cook leading the way and second-year back Ray Davis showing out as a rookie when he got opportunities, but Johnson appears set in a change-of-pace role. The 27-year-old has quietly put together 5.0 yards per carry on 101 totes over the last three seasons.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could benefit from Cook's absence
Johnson could get more opportunities with the first-team offense in minicamp, as Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports that James Cook may hold out as Cook angles for an extension.
ANALYSIS
Johnson split backup duties with rookie Ray Davis in 2024, as the former posted 497 scrimmage yards, which was well behind Cook's team-leading total of 1,267 in the regular season. If Cook holds out during contract talks, Davis and Johnson would likely split first-team reps in practice.
