2026 Fantasy Outlook
Vaki, a 2024 fourth-round pick, has spent his first two seasons in Detroit as a mainstay on special teams but scarcely contributed on offense, with just 10 total touches under his belt. Despite the Lions having traded David Montgomery to Houston this offseason, Vaki faces a similar fate in 2026 after the team added Isiah Pacheco to a backfield led by Jahmyr Gibbs. Additionally, Vaki’s lackluster speed (4.62 40) is an indication that his versatility may not translate from special teams to a change-of-pace role. Read Past Outlooks
Could compete for No. 2 job
Vaki could have an opportunity to compete for the No. 2 spot at running back with the Lions in 2026.
ANALYSIS
Vaki was scarcely used during the 2025 campaign, logging just two offensive snaps over 11 games, turning his only carry into a four-yard gain. With primary backup David Montgomery being dealt to the Texans on Monday, Vaki currently sits as the most experienced reserve option behind starter Jahmyr Gibbs in Detroit's backfield. The Lions will almost certainly bring in competition for the 2024 fourth-rounder in free agency or the 2026 NFL Draft, but he will have his clearest path toward playing time ahead of his third season with the Lions.

2025
2024
Vaki spent his rookie campaign in 2024 as a depth option at running back behind Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery and Craig Reynolds, turning six carries into 14 yards and reeling in three passes for 37 yards while playing just 25 offensive snaps during the regular season. With Gibbs, Montgomery and Reynolds back in 2025, Vaki likely will operate in a similar role again, greatly limiting his fantasy upside. If he can wrestle the third-string job from Reynolds in training camp he would at least set himself up for fantasy production should Gibbs or Montgomery get hurt.

Cut candidate per Maakaron
John Maakaron of SI.com projects that Vaki will fail to make Detroit's 53-man roster.
ANALYSIS
Jahmyr Gibbs and Isiah Pacheco occupy the top two spots on Detroit's running back depth chart, and Maakaron believes that the Lions will pick Jacob Saylors over Vaki as the team's third running back. Both Saylors and Vaki contribute on special teams, so it's possible that Detroit will opt to roster four running backs, but Vaki's chances of contributing on offense in 2026 appear minimal.
