2025 Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Pacheco is a consistently explosive running back when healthy, but that acknowledgment was always made with some amount of trepidation given Pacheco's cartoonishly violent running style. Pacheco's motor is always visibly running at 150 percent, which is helpful in some situations but not others. It's sometimes useful and always entertaining when Pacheco simply berserks his way through a collision, but players who run as recklessly as Pacheco almost always burn fast. The fibula fracture Pacheco suffered in Week 2 basically ended his season, because Pacheco was a shell of himself when he returned after an 11-week absence. Kareem Hunt is not particularly close to Pacheco's level when the two are both healthy, but Pacheco was hobbled enough in his recovery that even the largely expired journeyman Hunt was more productive when the two were both active. Pacheco will likely recover more fully for the 2025 season, and if so he could yet provide the breakout fantasy potential his investors hoped for in 2024, but in the meantime he needs to get back his speed to hold off Hunt and free-agent pickup Elijah Mitchell. Mitchell in particular could be a problem if he stays healthy, unlikely as that might be. Read Past Outlooks

Starts, but produces little Sunday
Pacheco took three carries for seven yards and brought in one of two targets for five yards in Sunday's 40-22 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Pacheco was the first back deployed out of Kansas City's backfield in what turned out to be a blowout loss for the Chiefs. Recent starter Kareem Hunt wound up matching Pacheco in total touches, so the starting honors meant little in the one-sided affair. That said, his veteran counterpart is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason while Pacheco still has one year left on his rookie contract. The Chiefs could bolster their backfield in the coming months, but Pacheco stands to be the favorite to start next year as the situation currently stands.

The Chiefs are careful to consistently invest in their offensive line, allowing them to provide consistently good blocking and a favorable setup for whoever is playing running back. Even so, Pacheco has proven a uniquely good fit for the Chiefs offense since they stole him out of Rutgers in the seventh round of the 2022 Draft. His 4.37 speed makes him a home-run threat, and his violent, high-motor running presents a challenging power component to defenses that are already spread thin by QB Patrick Mahomes. Pacheco's violent running does come with long-term durability concerns, especially wear-and-tear ailments like the shoulder trouble he played through in 2023, though injuries have cost him only two games through two seasons. He can handle every running back task and improved his passing-down work last year, eventually taking at least 70 percent of snaps in each of Kansas City's four playoff contests. His workloads typically haven't been that large during the regular season, but it's not out of the question for 2024 after the Chiefs settled for bringing back Clyde Edwards-Helaire in free agency and then added Samaje Perine shortly before the start of the season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Rejoined by Hunt in backfield
Pacheco is slated to be joined by Kareem Hunt in the Chiefs' backfield again in 2025 after the latter re-signed with Kansas City on Friday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Pacheco entered the 2024 campaign as the unquestioned lead back. However, a fibula fracture sustained in a Week 2 game against the Bengals sidelined him until Week 13, opening the door for Hunt to make his return to the Chiefs' active roster for the first time since the 2018 season. The veteran back impressed while at times filling a true lead-back role during Pacheco's absence, and Hunt continued to outpace his younger backfield mate in snaps frequently down the stretch and in the postseason.
