Won't play vs. Pittsburgh
Bateman (illness) has been downgraded from questionable to out for Sunday's game against the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Head coach John Harbaugh initially expressed optimism Friday that Bateman would be able to play in Sunday's pivotal AFC North tilt, but the fifth-year wideout will end up being sidelined after missing practice all week while battling through an illness. With Bateman sidelined, Lamar Jackson will lean more on Zay Flowers, DeAndre Hopkins, Devontez Walker, Tylan Wallace and tight ends Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely in the passing game. Bateman will end the 2025 regular season with 19 catches (on 39 targets) for 224 yards and two touchdowns across 13 games. He'll aim to progress enough in his recovery to be available for the wild-card round of the AFC playoffs should the Ravens advance with a win over the Steelers on Sunday.

Used mostly as a possession receiver throughout college and into his rookie season, Bateman has been deployed as more of a deep threat the past three years and finally broke through in 2024, averaging 10.5 YPT and scoring nine times on 73 targets. That didn't do much for managers in full-PPR leagues, but it had some value under standard scoring, and even more value to the Ravens. He almost looked worthy of the first-round pick Baltimore spent on him back in 2021, and perhaps even worthy of larger target shares moving forward. Even so, there's not much reason to expect a jump in volume unless Baltimore's offense is decimated by injuries. Few teams use heavy formations more often, and arguably no team has a better collection of TEs, RBs and FBs, which means the Ravens not only run the ball frequently but also throw a large portion of their passes to non-WRs. Among the wide receivers, fellow first-round pick Zay Flowers (2023) has been steadily ahead of Bateman for short and intermediate targets ever since entering the league, with DeAndre Hopkins now offering additional competition.

Candidate to move on
Bateman is identified by Aaron Schatz of ESPN.com as a player who could benefit from a change of scenery this offseason.
ANALYSIS
Bateman did just sign a three-year, $36.75 million extension before the 2025 season, but Schatz points out that a highly disappointing campaign in which he managed a modest 19-224-2 line still makes him a good candidate to move on. The analyst adds that Bateman often got defensive attention worthy of a No. 1 receiver last season while Zay Flowers worked primarily out of the slot and drew a nickelback's coverage; therefore, a move to a different offense where Bateman serves as a true complementary option could lead to better production.
