2026 Fantasy Outlook
Rice played just 12 games over the past two seasons, held back by an LCL tear in 2024 and then a suspension and a concussion in 2025. He's been a WR1 for fantasy when available, averaging 17.9 PPR points and 8.9 targets over those 12 games. Prior to that, Rice had a big run to close out his 2023 rookie season, averaging 16.3 PPR points and 8.5 targets over his final 11 appearances (including playoffs). The big question, then, is whether Rice can stay healthy and unsuspended, because there's not much doubt he'll see a steady flow of short passes whenever available. To that end, his ADP shot up in April when the NFL announced a conclusion to its investigation into domestic violence accusations against Rice. A few weeks later, Rice's ADP dropped back down when a probation violation landed him in jail for 30 days. He was recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery at the time, and while the Chiefs don't expect the knee to be a problem for Rice's Week 1 availability, there's still risk of the parole violation leading to an NFL-mandated suspension. The Chiefs have other question marks this year beyond the usual Rice-related dramas, with Patrick Mahomes rehabbing an ACL tear after missing out on the playoffs for the first time. Rice's lack of downfield production (four career catches 20-plus yards downfield) could eventually make him vulnerable to changes in team context, but for now he's still with Mahomes and Andy Reid, playing in an offense that has modest competition for targets and a long history of elevated pass volume. All eyes will be on Rice this summer for additional news about his knee and/or a suspension. Read Past Outlooks

Released from jail
Rice (knee) has been released from Dallas County Jail on Tuesday after serving his 30-day sentence for violating probation with a positive THC test, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Kansas City head coach Andy Reid said last Thursday that he expects Rice to be ready for the start of training camp in July. The fourth-year wide receiver is recovering from a minor clean-up surgery undergone in May on his right knee, and while in jail he was able to both rehab and maintain communication with the team. He was unable to attend mandatory minicamp, however. It's possible that Rice could still face league discipline as a result of his probation violation, but he appears on track to be fully healthy in advance of the regular season.

Rice looks like a smash success of a second-round pick (55th overall in 2023) despite running into major obstacles already. His off-field issues were one of the big NFL stories of the 2024 offseason, and he then suffered a season-ending LCL tear Week 4. In between, he took a step forward from his fantastic rookie season, catching 24 passes (for 288 yards and two TDs) over the first three games of 2024. His role and production from late 2023 into early 2024 hint at WR1 fantasy potential, especially in full-PPR leagues, although he may have a hard time earning downfield targets in an offense that has speed demons Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown. Rice ran a 4.51 40 (at 6-foot-1, 204 pounds) at the 2023 Combine, albeit with a 41-inch vertical and 128-inch broad jump hinting at explosiveness beyond what his straight-line speed suggests. His career 4.7 aDOT is TE-like, but Rice's excellent work after the catch (8.4 YAC average) has led to a WR-like 11.9 yards per reception, and his 78.6 percent catch rate is right around the positional average for RBs. A best-case scenario for his future looks something like what Michael Thomas did in New Orleans. Rice returned healthy for the start of Kansas City's OTAs, but he then settled his legal case in July and accepted a six-game NFL suspension in August, ruling him out for Weeks 1-6. He should be a high-end fantasy starter, potentially even WR1 level, once he returns from suspension Week 7.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
New legal trouble emerges
Rice will miss the Chiefs' OTAs and upcoming minicamp due to having been sentenced to 30 days in jail because of a probation violation, Nate Taylor and Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com report.
ANALYSIS
The jail sentence begins immediately and is the result of Rice having tested positive for marijuana, a violation of the terms of his probation from his third-degree felony case for racing and causing bodily injury in 2024. Rice, who recently also had a clean-up procedure on his knee, will be incarcerated in Dallas County and won't be released until June 16, which is five days after the Chiefs' mandatory minicamp.
