2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Rudolph could have entered the 2026 season as the Steelers’ starting quarterback if Aaron Rodgers had decided not to return to the team. With Rodgers back, however, Rudolph faces legitimate competition for backup slotting from second-year passer Will Howard and rookie third-round pick Drew Allar, who is recovering from an ankle injury. In that scenario, Rudolph may instead become the odd man out in a crowded four-man QB room, especially given the Steelers’ apparent commitment to developing both Howard and Allar. Rudolph has established himself as a capable backup with starting experience, and if Pittsburgh makes him available, he could draw modest trade interest from teams looking to upgrade their No. 2 quarterback spot. Out of 2026 starting mix
Rudolph will be relegated to a backup role again in 2026, as Aaron Rodgers signed a one-year contract with the Steelers on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Rodgers will reclaim the starting role he possessed in 2025, leaving Rudolph to battle for the second spot on the depth chart with 2025 sixth-round pick Will Howard and 2026 third-round pick Drew Allar (ankle). If one of the younger quarterbacks shows promise in training camp, the Steelers could also opt to trade Rudolph to a team seeking an experienced backup. Rudolph has posted a 9-9-1 record in 19 regular-season starts split between the Steelers and Titans, including a loss in his lone start of 2025 with Pittsburgh while Rodgers was sidelined by a wrist injury.

Rudolph signed a one-year contract this offseason to return to Pittsburgh, where he spent the first five years of his NFL career. He went 1-4 as a starter for the Titans last year, throwing nine touchdowns and nine interceptions on 228 pass attempts for one of the worst teams in the league. Aaron Rodgers signed with the Steelers in June, making an injury the only path to snaps for Rudolph. If he ends up playing this season, he will have more help around him, as the Steelers have a solid defense and offensive line. The pass-catching group, however, likely will be no better than average even if WR DK Metcalf proves to be an upgrade on George Pickens (traded to the Cowboys). The team also traded for Jonnu Smith, giving it another receiving tight end in addition to Pat Freiermuth.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Unlikely to make 53-man roster?
Noah Strackbein of SI.com lists both Will Howard and Drew Allar as the biggest winners of OTAs and minicamp and relays that Rudolph is on the outside looking in for a spot on the Steelers' 53-man roster.
ANALYSIS
Rudolph, Howard and Allar are all battling for the backup job after the Steelers brought back Aaron Rodgers on a one-year contract in May. Howard and Allar have both demonstrated improvement throughout OTAs and minicamp, with the former being Strackbein's pick for the QB2 job behind Rodgers. If it plays out that way after training camp, then the Steelers would likely look to cut Rudolph or trade him to a team in need of a veteran backup.
