2026 Fantasy Outlook
Seattle's Super Bowl victory might not have happened if not for Walker propelling them through the playoffs, a stretch that offered a glimpse of what Walker might be capable of if given a feature-back role. Zach Charbonnet's ACL tear cleared the field for Walker to take over and accumulate 417 yards from scrimmage (104 receiving) with four rushing touchdowns in three playoff games, and now Walker heads to Kansas City to take up what should be a much bigger regular-season role than he had with Seattle. Walker was already productive for Seattle, and the workload split wouldn't have been such a big deal if Charbonnet hadn't poached so many short-yardage touchdowns. In Kansas City, there's little doubt that Walker will both claim a higher share of backfield usage in general and specifically in scoring situations. Walker's three-year, $43.05 million deal with the Chiefs dictates as much, even before factoring in the weak veteran depth behind him. The only real potential concern with Walker would be his injury history -- he stayed healthy in 2025 but missed time in each of the prior three seasons with a variety of lower-body and abdomen injuries. Could catch more passes with Chiefs
RBKansas City Chiefs
May 5, 2026
Walker suggested Tuesday that he might have an opportunity to catch more passes with the Chiefs than he did with the Seahawks, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
On the heels of being named the most valuable player of Super Bowl LX, Walker inked a lucrative three-year deal to lead Kansas City's backfield this coming season. Edholm notes that Walker earned a reputation as a run-first back during his four-year stint with Seattle, but the 2022 second-rounder -- who logged 31 catches in 17 regular-season games in 2025 -- has reportedly been spending time with QB Patrick Mahomes (who is bouncing back from a December ACL/LCL injury) this offseason in anticipation of a potentially expanded role as a pass catcher. "We've been working on getting connected in the passing game and everything, so that's good," Walker said. "I feel like I'll be used more in the pass game." Either way, as the clear-cut RB1 for his new team, Walker figures to be busy out of the gate this coming season while Mahomes works his way back to form. Competing for complementary work behind Walker will be a pair of newcomers in rookie Emmett Johnson and free agent addition Emari Demercado, as well as 2025 seventh-rounder Brashard Smith.

Walker is one of the league's toughest players to tackle, boasting a unique combination of anchor, change of direction and burst that makes him slippery even when he's seemingly cornered. In a certain scenario it would be easy enough to imagine him finishing the year among the league's leading rushers, but his exact role with Seattle might be in flux after recurring lower-body injuries allowed fellow second-round pick Zach Charbonnet to get his foot in the door, especially on passing downs. Walker's willingness to play injured has probably harmed his rushing average over the last two years – his YPC fell from 4.6 in 2022 to under 4.0 YPC since then – but if he proves an ongoing injury risk as a starter then it might be in Seattle's best interest to lessen his workloads in exchange for better explosiveness and longevity. It remains to be seen whether new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak will prioritize usage differently than Ryan Grubb before him, but Walker's incumbent status and uncommon raw explosiveness make him the favorite to remain the lead back over Charbonnet.
Teams don't draft running backs in the second round with the idea of them being backups forever, but it's not obvious what will give in the competition between Walker (2022) and fellow second-round pick Zach Charbonnet (2023). The two were not close in 2023; Walker was far and away the Seahawks' preferred runner, to the point that they fed him carries even when he could barely practice because of oblique and shoulder issues in the second half of the season. While the two finished the year with similar snap counts (Walker: 476, Charbonnet: 454), the rookie was mostly used on pass plays and had less than half as many carries (108 to Walker's 219) despite playing one more game (16 to 15). Perhaps Charbonnet will close that gap going into his second year, after averaging just 5.4 carries in the 14 games both he and Walker played last year. Walker is the faster of the two and more densely built (four inches shorter yet only three pounds lighter), but the Seahawks seem to trust Charbonnet more as a blocker/receiver, and he was no slouch running the ball at UCLA (2,496 rushing yards, 27 TDs in two seasons). Walker was even more productive in his one year at Michigan State (1,636 yards, 18 TDs), and he's subsequently proven himself at the next level with 1,955 rushing yards in two season, including better work as a situational runner/chain-mover in 2023 after his rookie year was defined by a mix of long runs and frequent stuffs.
Walker seemingly cleared a crucial hurdle when Rashaad Penny signed with Philadelphia in free agency, only to see the Seahawks spend a second-round pick on a running back (UCLA's Zach Charbonnet) for a second straight year. Walker was a second-round pick last year and thrived after Penny's season-ending leg injury, averaging 18.6 carries for 82.2 yards (4.4 YPC) over his final 11 appearances. Just like he had at Michigan State the year before, Walker repeatedly took 20-carry workloads and turned them into 100-plus yards on the ground. Questions will persist about Walker as a receiver – he never did it in college and as a rookie he was inconclusive at best – but as a runner he excels. The problem now is that Charbonnet is similarly talented and comes to Seattle at the same the Seahawks are adding a credible third receiver (first-round pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba). There are more mouths to feed, but Walker doesn't lack for upside as the incumbent starter in an offense that was above average last season and now has two top-60 picks coming in to help QB Geno Smith.
The second running back taken in this year's draft, Walker went to Seattle with the 41st overall pick after a huge junior season at Michigan State that included a 75-yard TD run on his first carry. A compact, powerful runner at 5-9, 211, Walker opened eyes at the combine with a surprising 4.39 40 time, raising his draft stock even higher after the big finish to his college career. Without Russell Wilson this season, the Seattle offense could be even more run-heavy than it was last year, though efficiency likely will be a problem until the team finds a new franchise quarterback. Former first-round pick Rashaad Penny finished 2021 on a tear and thus enters camp as the starting running back, but he's missed nearly as many games (28) as he's played (37) through four NFL seasons, so it may not be long before Walker gets his shot as the lead back.

Could catch more passes in KC
RBKansas City Chiefs
May 7, 2026
Walker expects to get more opportunities as a pass catcher with the Chiefs than he did with the Seahawks, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Walker signed a three-year contract with the Chiefs in the offseason after spending four seasons in Seattle. He rushed for more than 1,000 yards in two of four regular seasons with the Seahawks but failed to reach 300 receiving yards in any campaign. Walker said on the Up & Adams Show that he has been working on getting connected with Patrick Mahomes in the passing game, and the running back plans to contribute more in that aspect with his new team.
