Jonathon Brooks

21-Year-Old Running BackRB
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Brooks was the first running back selected in the 2024 NFL Draft (46th overall), and with such a substantial investment the Panthers clearly expect him to become a starter at some point. The question is whether that time is already here or if it might more so be in 2025, considering Brooks is returning from a Nov. 11 ACL tear and is one of the youngest players from his draft class (21 in July). Between the injury recovery and the potential need for development time, Brooks is no sure thing to displace incumbent starter Chuba Hubbard, who ran for more yardage and touchdowns in a 13-game span at Oklahoma State than Brooks did over his entire three-year career at Texas. While he hasn't been as successful as a professional, Hubbard isn't exactly a pushover, coming off a 2023 season with 1,135 yards from scrimmage in an offense that ranked 31st in scoring and 32nd in points. Pass-catching skill is where Brooks figures to have an immediate advantage, potentially opening up a significant role even if the Panthers keep Hubbard occupied as their lead runner. Of course, both backs will be somewhat dependent on QB Bryce Young rebounding from a dreadful rookie year under new coach Dave Canales, who at least has the help of veteran offseason additions like WR Diontae Johnson, LG Damien Lewis and RG Robert Hunt. Will be activated Wednesday

November 6, 2024
Head coach Dave Canales said Brooks (knee) will be activated from the reserve/non-football injury list Wednesday, but he isn't certain whether or not the running back will play Sunday against the Giants in Munich, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Dating back to last week, Brooks now has been listed as a full participant on four consecutive injury reports, but the Panthers continue to take a cautious approach with the rookie second-round pick as he gets back to full health from the torn ACL that he suffered in his right knee last Nov. 12 during his final collegiate season at Texas. If Brooks doesn't make his pro debut Sunday, Chuba Hubbard will continue to lead Carolina's backfield, while the team uses their Week 11 bye to get the former ready for its next game Nov. 24 versus the Chiefs.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could be rested again
RBCarolina Panthers
November 5, 2024
The Panthers could opt to activate Brooks off injured reserve but not make him active in Week 10 against the Giants to give him extra rest, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer suggests.
ANALYSIS
Brooks will need to be activated from injured reserve prior to Carolina's Week 10 matchup, or else he will revert to IR for the rest of the season. Given their lack of competitiveness, the Panthers have understandably taken a conservative approach with the rookie back as he recovers from a torn ACL. If the team were to opt to make him a healthy scratch Sunday, he would have the benefit of a Week 11 bye -- giving him two additional weeks to work back up to game speed while still giving him the chance to close the season on the field.
