2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Hopes were high for Guerendo heading into last season after he popped for a few big games as a rookie in 2024 while filling in for Christian McCaffrey. Instead, the fourth-round pick out of Louisville was limited exclusively to special teams as CMac stayed healthy and Kyle Shanahan decided to bring in Brian Robinson to handle the backup job. The 49ers' draft history also strongly suggests that Guerendo has fallen out of favor as a backfield option, as Jordan James was nabbed with a fifth-round pick in 2025 and Kaelon Black was selected in the third round in 2026. With McCaffrey turning 30 in June and coming off another season of more than 400 touches, though – 450 including the playoffs, to be exact – the odds of him staying on the field for all 17 regular-season games again seem slim. If Guerendo and his elite speed, highlighted by a 4.33 40-yard time at the combine, can somehow emerge from the pack with the No. 2 role, he could again become the latest back in a Shanahan offense to deliver surprising production. Few running backs in NFL history come close to the raw athletic ability of Guerendo, who at 6 feet, 220 pounds has blazing speed (4.33 40) and elite explosiveness (41.5-inch vertical, 129-inch broad jump). It's such a shame, then, that Guerendo may be one of the most fragile RB prospects in recent memory. He had horrendous injury luck for all but one of the past six years, at one point in college suffering hamstring tears two years in a row before suffering a Lisfranc injury the third year. In his 2024 rookie year, Guerendo missed time at various points with hamstring, groin and foot injuries, and in the season finale against Arizona he suffered an MCL sprain and ankle sprain in the same leg. As if to make all of this more tormenting, Guerendo has real skill in addition to his ridiculous athleticism - he runs with power and is likely an above-average receiver - but it just isn't clear he can ever stay healthy to realize his upside. For now, Guerendo will compete with August trade acquisition Brian Robinson for the second spot on San Francisco's RB depth chart, behind workhorse Christian McCaffrey.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Sidelined by pec tear
Guerendo is projected to be sidelined until "right around the end of training camp" by a pectoral tear he recently suffered while weightlifting, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2024 fourth-round pick has seen his career take a notable downturn since he impressed as a rookie with 420 rushing yards and four touchdowns, along with a 15-152-0 line on 16 targets, across 16 regular-season games. Guerendo failed to log a touch from scrimmage over 14 games during the 2025 regular season, and the pectoral tear now puts him in considerable jeopardy of missing out on an opportunity to lay claim to the No. 2 running back job vacated by the departure of Brian Robinson in free agency.
