2026 Fantasy Outlook
Purdy was limited to nine games last season because of shoulder and toe injuries. A three-game stretch following the 49ers’ Week 14 bye accounted for 41 percent of his season passing yards and 11 of his 20 touchdowns. In his other six games, he averaged just 212 passing yards and had almost as many interceptions as TD passes (9:8 TD:INT). Purdy led the league in on-target percentage (77.8) and was third in completion percentage (69.4), but some of that stemmed from a passing attack that didn’t stretch the field as he posted a 7.8-yard average target depth (19th). Nearly two-thirds of his attempts went less than 10 yards downfield, and just 8.8 percent went at least 20 yards (23rd). He didn’t get much help in that regard from his receivers. Jauan Jennings was miscast as a No. 1 WR, and Ricky Pearsall was hobbled by a knee injury for much of the season. Purdy's usual gameplan of generating big plays from intermediate throws didn’t work either -- YAC accounted for just 40 percent of his yards (32nd). The 49ers let Jennings walk this offseason and signed veterans Mike Evans and Christian Kirk. Evans, though, is coming off an injury-plagued season and will be 33 by Week 1, and Kirk is no better than a No. 3 receiver at this point of his career. What’s more, tight end George Kittle is uncertain for the start of the season after tearing his Achilles' in the playoffs. The 49ers may need an early impact from rookie wideout De’Zhaun Stribling, counting on the 33rd overall pick with 4.36 speed to at least provide a big-play threat off the bench. If nothing else, Purdy still has Christian McCaffrey to dump it off to and LT Trent Williams protecting his blindside, with Kyle Shanahan dialing up plays for an aging offense that Read Past Outlooks

Plans throwing sessions before camp
Purdy, who has been participating in this week's Tight End University, an event hosted by teammate George Kittle (Achilles), said that he plans to gather with other 49ers for throwing sessions over the next month prior to training camp, David Lombardi of the San Francisco Standard reports.
ANALYSIS
As the coming campaign approaches, Purdy -- who has had time to move past the shoulder and toe issues he dealt with last season -- is set to work with a WR corps that welcomes a trio of key additions in Mike Evans, Christian Kirk and rookie second-rounder De'Zhaun Stribling. Also in the mix are returnees Ricky Pearsall, Jacob Cowing, Jordan Watkins and Demarcus Robinson. Meanwhile, Kittle is bouncing back from an Achilles injury, and though the star TE says that he has "a chance" to be ready for Week 1, the 49ers may need to lean more on their key wideouts out of the gate this year while Kittle works his way back into the mix. Purdy is coming off a 2025 regular season in which he threw for 2,167 yards with 20 TDs and 10 picks, while carrying 33 times for 147 yards and three scores in nine games. Looking ahead, the signal-caller's fantasy upside in 2026 hinges largely on avoiding injuries, as well as building strong on-field chemistry with his team's re-tooled pass-catching unit.

Purdy fell from QB6 in 2023 to QB13 last season, thanks to predictable regression and injuries to key players. Purdy’s YPA dropped from an obviously unsustainable 9.6, the second-highest mark this century, to a still-impressive 8.5, third in the league. Despite posting a career-high 75.8 on-target percentage (8th), his completion percentage dipped slightly to 65.9 (17th). He also lost yardage because the 49ers’ average yards after catch went from a league-high 6.5 in 2023 to 5.3 last year. In the red zone, Purdy regressed from a league-leading 29.7 TD percentage to a below-average 22.7 percent (23rd), costing him about five touchdowns. Injuries to Christian McCaffrey (13 missed games) and Brandon Aiyuk (10) perhaps made the backslide inevitable. The good news is that Purdy had career highs in rushing yards (323, 11th among QBs) and touchdowns (five, 6th). Continued rushing production and positive regression in the red zone would make a big impact for 2025. As will the return of McCaffrey, although Aiyuk’s rehab from ACL/MCL surgery may bleed into the upcoming season. The 49ers traded Deebo Samuel this offseason, in part because WR Jauan Jennings broke out last year. He’ll be the No. 1 WR if Aiyuk misses time, followed by 2024 first-round pick Ricky Pearsall, who finished his rookie year strong. And after consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, TE George Kittle is back with a four-year extension. A bounce-back into the Top 10 of fantasy QBs looks reasonable for Purdy.

Top-85 player despite missed time
Purdy was voted the 85th-best player in the NFL by his fellow players, Bobby Kownack of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Purdy missed eight games in the 2025 regular season due to a toe injury, but he was impressive enough over the other nine games to earn a spot on the NFL's top-100 player list, averaging 7.6 yards per pass attempt to go with a 20:10 TD:INT. If Purdy and the 49ers stay healthier in 2026, they have the talent on both sides of the ball to emerge as Super Bowl contenders despite playing in the loaded NFC West.
