Melton made some waves in 2023, topping the 100-yard mark Week 17 and finding paydirt in a playoff game, but that late-season surge did not earn him a more prominent role in 2024, nor did his presence prevent the Packers from spending two of their top three draft picks on wideouts in April while adding Mecole Hardman to the receiver room. Melton is a favorite of the Green Bay coaching staff - they even gave him reps at cornerback this offseason to enhance his profile - but he'll enter training camp on the bubble, and even if he retains a roster spot his playing time likely will remain minimal. The loss of Melton is a significant blow to a Packers squad that has suffered consistent injuries to its wide receiver corps and secondary. The recent claiming of Trevon Diggs from the Cowboys should make up for Melton's absence at cornerback, but with Savion Williams (foot) on IR and Dontayvion Wicks (concussion) questionable for Saturday's wild-card matchup with the Bears, it remains to be seen what the team will do with its current receiving depth.

After spending nearly a full year on Green Bay's practice squad, Melton finally got a chance to show what he could do last December. He certainly made the most of the opportunity, racking up 100 yards and a score Week 17 and finding pay dirt again in the divisional round of the playoffs. Just 25 years old and blessed with 4.34 speed, there's reason to be excited about Melton's prospects. However, Green Bay has four other promising receivers, and he will have a tough time surpassing any of them on the depth chart. He's the favorite for the fifth spot, though, as Green Bay's receiver room looks almost exactly like it did when the 2023 season came to an end.
