2026 Fantasy Outlook
With 4.32 speed and a smallish frame (5-foot-9, 206), it was assumed that Tuten would function as something like a big-play specialist as a fourth-round pick out of Virginia Tech last year. The Jaguars instead used Tuten more like a short-yardage specialist, of all things, leading to seven TDs on 93 touches. Travis Etienne was the clear starter and the featured back for almost all other situations, but his workload and power limitations necessitated someone else easing the burden. Tuten worked surprisingly well in the role, highlighting the fact that he has considerable raw power despite being short and extremely fast. Tuten also runs with a great deal of motor, so his effectiveness in short-yardage situations might be meaningful rather than a by-default outcome of his role. With Etienne gone to New Orleans, the next question is how much Tuten can take from the work Etienne previously claimed. Free-agent addition Chris Rodriguez is a power back who may get a lot of the short-yardage work that Tuten handled last year, in turn freeing up Tuten to function more like Etienne. There's no guarantee on that front, though, because Tuten probably lacks the vision, pacing and ball security provided by Etienne. Fumbles and drops were major issues for Tuten in college, and there's still huge uncertainty surrounding his NFL projection after a rookie season with two fumbles and only 14 targets. If he can cut back on the mistakes, Tuten has a huge opportunity in front of him to seize the lead role in a productive offense. Read Past Outlooks

Added reps with fellow RB sidelined
With Chris Rodriguez recovering from a foot procedure, Tuten and LeQuint Allen took the majority of the Jaguars' running back reps during OTAs and at Tuesday's mandatory minicamp session, Michael DiRocco of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
According to coach Liam Coen, Rodriguez "will be full go come training camp" after hurting his left foot at the beginning of the team's offseason conditioning program. Once he's back on the field, the free-agent addition is set to compete with Tuten and Allen for slotting in a backfield that no longer includes Travis Etienne. As a rookie last season, Tuten gained 307 yards and five TDs on 83 carries while adding 10 catches for 79 yards and a pair of receiving TDs in 15 regular-season contests. The 2025 fourth-rounder has an opportunity to carve a larger role this season, but Coen previously referred to the situation as "truly wide open," per John Shipley of SI.com, and at this stage there's no clear favorite for the top job.

Tuten (5-foot-9, 206 pounds) is one of the fastest running backs in the league (4.32 40) and a threat to make defenses pay the long-distance price for poor containment -- but so is Travis Etienne. The difference to Jacksonville is that Etienne is on the last year of his rookie contract, while Tuten, a rookie fourth-round pick, is probably somewhat raw for now. Taking whatever Etienne can give this year before moving to Tuten beyond 2025 is a reasonable plan. To take on a leading role, Tuten will need to significantly improve his ball security and passing-down skills from what he showed at Virginia Tech. Fellow Jacksonville runner Tank Bigsby fumbles too much, yet Tuten's collegiate fumbling in comparison was magnitudes worse. Tuten fumbled 10 times on 428 touches the past two years, and if he keeps coughing it up at anything similar to that rate, he simply will not play. On the other hand, Etienne and Bigsby are vulnerable to competition if Tuten can improve his ball security and become more than just a size-speed freak.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Prepping for bigger Year 2 role
Tuten, who logged 93 total touches from scrimmage as a rookie in 2025, is primed for a much larger role this coming season following the offseason departure of Travis Etienne, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Liam Coen is on record this offseason as expecting to see significant improvement to his ground attack after the Jaguars averaged a modest 91.2 rushing yards per game at 3.3 yards per carry over the last six games of the 2025 regular season. Tuten is a player he's likely to lean on heavily in that quest despite the free-agent addition of Chris Rodriguez, who's currently recovering from a foot injury suffered earlier in the offseason. "I'm always ready for it," Tuten said. "I know my role might increase significantly, but I've just got to prepare myself and go out there and just take it play by play, just harping on the details and let my play talk for itself."
