2026 Fantasy Outlook
With 4.32 speed and a smallish frame (5-9, 206) it was assumed that Tuten would function as something like a big-play specialist as a fourth-round pick out of Virginia Tech, yet the Jaguars instead used Tuten as something more like a short-yardage specialist of all things. Travis Etienne was the clear starter and the featured back for almost all other situations, but Etienne has workload and power limitations that necessitated a short-yardage specialist easing the burden. Tuten worked surprisingly well in the role, highlighting the fact that Tuten has considerable raw power despite being small and extremely fast. Tuten also runs with a great deal of motor, so his effectiveness in short-yardage situations might be meaningful rather than a by-default outcome of his role. With Etienne gone to New Orleans the next question is how much Tuten can take from the work Etienne previously claimed. Particularly with the arrival of free agent power-back pickup Chris Rodriguez, the Jaguars might opt to take the short-yardage role off of Tuten's plate to more or less install him as a 1:1 Etienne replacement. There's no guarantee on that front, though, because Tuten probably lacks the vision, pacing or ball security provided by Etienne, and Rodriguez as a pure runner could be compelling enough to take some of Etienne's former rushing workload before Tuten can claim it. Whatever the eventual sorting of the specifics, Tuten is clearly locked into some major role for the Jaguars in 2026. Fumbling and drops were major issues with Tuten in college and will cast some amount of uncertainty over his NFL projection until he proves he's past those issues, but if Tuten can turn a corner as a pass catcher especially it would allow him to maintain something like RB2 utility in fantasy even if Rodriguez takes a sizeable rushing workload himself. Could lead Etienne-less RB room
Tuten will likely see a similar workload to Chris Rodriguez as the leaders of Jacksonville's new-look backfield, John Shipley of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Tuten finished second on the team in carries as a rookie during the regular season, as the 2025 fourth-round pick rushed 83 times for 307 yards and five touchdowns while working as the backup to Travis Etienne, who subsequently signed a four-year contract with the Saints in free agency. Jacksonville brought in Rodriguez on a two-year, $10-million contract but didn't draft any running backs, setting Tuten and Rodriguez up to split most of the carries ahead of passing-down specialists LeQuint Allen and DeeJay Dallas.

Tuten (5-foot-9, 206 pounds) is one of the fastest running backs in the league (4.32 40) and a threat to make defenses pay the long-distance price for poor containment -- but so is Travis Etienne. The difference to Jacksonville is that Etienne is on the last year of his rookie contract, while Tuten, a rookie fourth-round pick, is probably somewhat raw for now. Taking whatever Etienne can give this year before moving to Tuten beyond 2025 is a reasonable plan. To take on a leading role, Tuten will need to significantly improve his ball security and passing-down skills from what he showed at Virginia Tech. Fellow Jacksonville runner Tank Bigsby fumbles too much, yet Tuten's collegiate fumbling in comparison was magnitudes worse. Tuten fumbled 10 times on 428 touches the past two years, and if he keeps coughing it up at anything similar to that rate, he simply will not play. On the other hand, Etienne and Bigsby are vulnerable to competition if Tuten can improve his ball security and become more than just a size-speed freak.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Rodriguez in, Etienne out
Tuten is likely to see his role expand in the 2026 season, as Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Travis Etienne agreed to a contract with the Saints on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Tuten worked as the primary backup to Etienne in 2025, as the speedy fourth-round pick finished his rookie regular season with 83 carries for 307 yards and five touchdowns, as well as 10 catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns on 14 targets. After Etienne joined the Saints, the Jaguars subsequently signed Chris Rodriguez to a two-year contract Wednesday, per Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com, but Rodriguez has just 920 rushing yards and six catches through three NFL seasons, so Tuten has a clear path to contributing in passing situations while possibly taking on a larger early-down role as well. Jacksonville also has 2025 seventh-round pick LeQuint Allen on the roster at running back and could target backfield reinforcements in the draft.
