2024 Fantasy Outlook
You wouldn't know it from his 2023 rushing average, but Etienne is one of the most explosive running backs of distant NFL memory. This was made clear by his 2022 season (5.1 yards per carry over 220 carries) and four-year Clemson career (7.2 yards per carry and 70 touchdowns over 686 carries). The Jaguars offense fell apart in 2023, however, implausibly limiting Etienne to 3.8 YPC. The coaches and front office committed to the theory that this dropoff was the fault of the offensive line rather than the scheme/coaches, making it a goal to improve the team's blocking going into 2024. Unfortunately, the Jaguars mostly seem to be counting on internal improvement and better health. The signing of free agent center Mitch Morse adds a competent starter but not a true difference-maker, and the other four positions are in the hands of returning starters Cam Robinson (left tackle), Ezra Cleveland (left guard), Brandon Scherff (right guard) and Anton Harrison (right tackle). Although Etienne is one of the best running backs in the league and seemingly locked in for another large workload, he might be playing on a higher difficulty level than other top RBs. RANKS
Ties season high of 85 total yards
Etienne rushed 14 times for 65 yards while catching four of five targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 32-25 loss to the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Etienne reclaimed the lead role from Tank Bigsby, finishing with an 18-11 edge in touches after being out-touched, 19-8, by Bigsby against the Titans in Week 14. The week-to-week fluctuations limit both running backs' upside heading into an otherwise favorable Week 16 matchup against the Raiders. Etienne's 85 scrimmage yards against the Jets tied the season high he set back in Week 3 against the Bills.

2022
2021
Although it was an up-and-down season for Etienne, his delayed NFL debut was generally promising, and his big-play ability in particular difficult to ignore. All Etienne did at Clemson was make big plays, producing explosively in a way that only a few running backs in college football history ever have, so it was always expected he'd be a big-play threat in the NFL. Etienne confirmed in 2022 that he's among the most dangerous long-range threats at running back in the league. The catch is that the rest of his game was arguably lacking -- Etienne struggled with fumbles (five) and had occasional issues with focus drops, including a wide-open, would-be touchdown in Week 1, and he didn't always churn out consistent yardage in between the big plays. As much as it's great to see Etienne peel off 20- and 40-yard carries at a league-leading pace, it would go a long way for his production and the Jaguars offense if he could avoid going cold in between the big plays. Despite whatever other particulars, it's arguable that the main story of Etienne's 2022 season is that he appeared fully recovered from the Lisfranc fracture that ended his rookie year in training camp. Few injuries are more disturbing for a running back, yet Etienne thankfully appears to be well past it.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Heavy load possible Week 11
Etienne could be in store for a heavy workload in Week 11 against the Lions, as Tank Bigsby didn't practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury.
ANALYSIS
Bigsby injured his ankle in Jacksonville's Week 10 loss to the Vikings. If Bigsby's unable to heal up in time to face Detroit on Sunday, Etienne would likely regain the three-down role he occupied prior to Bigsby's emergence that forced a timeshare in Jacksonville's backfield. The Jaguars will likely lean heavily on the run with starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence ruled out due to a left shoulder injury, and Etienne is also the best pass catcher in Jacksonville's backfield.
