2026 Fantasy Outlook
The Colts thought highly enough of Pierce to give him the sixth-largest contract guarantee ($60 million) among wide receivers, even though they knew he might need ankle surgery not long after signing. He ended up having the procedure in late March or early April -- five and a half months before Week 1 of 2026 -- and reportedly has a recovery timeline of 4-6 months, which means Week 1 is no sure thing. A 2022 second-round pick, Pierce served as a low-volume field stretcher for three years, topping out at 37-824-7 in 2024, when his 30 deep targets tied for second-most in the league. He then drew 28 deep targets in 2025, again ranking second, but this time he was also a threat in the intermediate range, drawing 55 targets that traveled less than 20 yards downfield (compared to 36 in 2024). With four TDs and 218 yards over the final two weeks of last season, Pierce snuck over 1,000 yards despite missing two and a half games in concussion protocol. He averaged 66.9 yards and 5.6 targets per game, ranking 18th among WRs with 2.23 yards per route. The Colts seem to think there's more meat on the bone, having yet to replace WR Michael Pittman, who was traded to Pittsburgh in March. While Daniel Jones's rehab from an Achilles tear may complicate things, the Colts clearly intend to run their passing game through Pierce, TE Tyler Warren and WR Josh Downs when everyone is healthy. If things go according to plan, Pierce could push toward triple-digit targets for the first time. Read Past Outlooks

Discusses ankle surgery
Pierce (ankle) revealed Wednesday that he underwent surgery this spring after not getting the results he wanted from a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection at the start of the offseason, JJ Stankevitz of Colts.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Pierce didn't elaborate on the specifics of his injury or surgery, but he at least clarified the general timeline while speaking with reporters. His left ankle has bothered him since the end of the 2024 season, and he dealt with soreness throughout 2025 while recording his first 1,000-yard campaign. He hoped the issue would resolve this winter with a PRP injection and subsequent rehab program (estimated at 6-to-8 weeks), but the ankle didn't get much better, leaving Pierce to choose between surgery or playing through the injury again. He and the Colts agreed on surgery as the solution in late March, only a few weeks after reaching agreement on a four-year, $114 million contract (with $60 million guaranteed at signing). The Colts presumably knew surgery was a possibility when they gave Pierce the huge contract; relations appear amicable between player and team. In any case, Pierce now faces an estimated rehab process of 4-to-6 months, making him uncertain for the start of training camp. He'll be about five and a half months removed from surgery when the Colts host the Ravens in Week 1 (Sept. 13).

Pierce had a mini-breakout in 2024, leading all qualified receivers in yards per catch (22.3), yards per target (11.9) and aDOT (21.4), with each of those numbers rising for a second straight year. He scored on seven of his 39 catches, including three TDs of 40-plus yards, but he rarely saw shorter passes to complement the deep stuff and thus finished with less than five targets per game for a third time in three pro seasons. The 2022 second-round pick may be capable of using his 4.41 speed and big frame (6-3, 211) to succeed in shorter areas of the field, but the odds of finding out for sure in 2025 don't look good, as the Colts are bringing back fellow WRs Michael Pittman and Josh Downs while giving QB Anthony Richardson one last shot to win the starting job. Pierce is the one Indianapolis pass catcher that might actually benefit from Richardson's chaotic style of play, but it would likely still be in the form of sporadic spike weeks rather than steady volume.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May be delayed to start camp
Coach Shane Steichen said that Pierce could miss the first couple of weeks of training camp, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Pierce had an ankle procedure in mid-April and was originally given a three-month timeline to return. That would line him up to take the field at the start of training camp, so it's unclear if his recovery has not gone as planned or if the Colts are simply being cautious. Pierce also signed a four-year, $116 million deal with the team this offseason, and he figures to be one of the key members of its passing offense.
