Ninjas in Pyjamas edge past G2 in Final
After losing a tough match to the Season 1 Champions Virtus.Pro on Friday night, Ninjas in Pyjamas managed to edge past G2 in the finals, winning 2-0.
NiP had a strong start to Map 1, opening up a 3-0 lead thanks to the fact that they were able to plant the bomb in three consecutive rounds, building their economy early. However, G2's Cédric 'RpK' Guipouy responded with a triple-kill in the fourth round, followed by a defusal in the sixth to get G2 back into the game 3-3. The momentum didn't last long for G2 as NiP rallied back with a high-powered offense to take a 10-5 first half lead. G2 started the second half with a much better approach playing aggressive to get the first three rounds, but were shut down quickly by the NiP defense for a 16-8 loss.
G2 was able to make a bit more of a compelling series during the second contest, as they managed to stay afloat throughout the first halftime, only finding themselves in a 9-6 deficit at halftime. The second half started in G2's favor as they were able to pick up four rounds consecutively on the defense to give them the 10-9 lead. However, NiP respond with seven rounds against G2's defense as every Ninjas' player accumulated two or more kills in multiple rounds. NiP will now take part in the playoffs as the second seed from Group B.
Best of the Rest
G2 was able to advance to the Grand Finals thanks to a blowout win over Echo Fox in the opening match of Day 2.
Adil 'ScreaM' Benrlitom and Richard 'shox' Papillon for G2 remained consistent throughout the series against Echo Fox, posting an impressive combined 88/28 KD as well as a 252.9 ADR. Benrlitom and Papillon were able to finish with two or more kills in 26 round-wins between the two maps, shutting down any momentum Echo Fox would conjure up in the series. As a result, Echo Fox won just five maps in the two-game series as G2 would go on to sweep the series 2-0.
