St Lucia Zouks vs Jamaica Tallawahs: CPL Match 24 Preview

St Lucia Zouks vs Jamaica Tallawahs: CPL Match 24 Preview

Match Details:

Series/tournament: Caribbean Premier League

Venue: Darren Sammy Stadium - Gros Inlet, Saint Lucia

Date: September 28, 2019

Time: 5:30 a.m. IST

Match Preview:

Jamaica Tallawahs are currently last in the points table with six losses in eight games and must beat their rivals St Lucia Zouks in the upcoming clash to stay alive in the competition. They did beat Barbados Tridents in their last match, however, which should give them some sort of confidence going forward. After getting restricted to only 127 against the Tridents, the bowlers from Jamaica did a fine job as they defended the target successfully. While their bowling unit inspires confidence, Jamaica's batting, however, has been unable to get its act together, which remains a worry moving forward.

St Lucia, on the other hand, faced a loss in their last game - to table-toppers Guyana Amazon Warriors. They have been inconsistent thus far, but will take heart from the fact that they will be playing at home.

Weather Conditions: There is no prediction of rain for match day, with clear skies expected to greet us. The temperature will be in the high 20s, and a full 40-over game is on the cards.

Pitch Conditions: The wickets at St Lucia are typically fast and flat, which means that batters can hang in there and play their big shots. The even bounce does get the bowlers in the game as well, with both spinners and seamers capable of getting help.

Predicted Playing XI

St Lucia Zouks:

Jahmar Hamilton played his first game in the tournament last time, replacing Andre McCarthy in the playing XI. The latter is expected to return back to the side, after Hamilton  failed to get going, scoring just 9.

Andre Fletcher (wk), Rahkeem Cornwall, Colin Ingram, Colin de Grandhomme, Darren Sammy (c), Andre McCarthy, Chris Barnwell, Kesrick Williams, Jeavor Royal, Hardus Viljoen, Fawad Ahmed

Jamaica Tallawahs:

Andre Russell was injured for the last game, and missed out, but he is likely to return for the match against Zouks. Jade Dernbach will miss the upcoming game after he suffered from a groin injury, and he is expected to make way for Russell.

Glenn Phillips (wk), Chris Gayle, Chadwick Walton (c), Javelle Glen, George Worker, Andre Russell, Dwayne Smith, Shamarh Springer, Ramaal Lewis, Imran Khan, Zahir Khan

Top picks:

Wicket-keeper: Glenn Phillips (9 credits)

Jamaica's wicket-keeper Glenn Phillips is the only consistent batter from the side and tops the run-scoring charts this CPL 2019. He already has three fifties to this name, and also top-scored in the win last time around, making 41. Not only does he get points with the willow in hand, he also picks up vital Dream11 points with the gloves - he claimed three catches behind the stumps in the last match.

Batsman: Colin Ingram (9 credits)

Ingram is a hard-hitter, who has got starts in the competition but has been unable to get on to get a big score. He hit 25 from 14 in the last game, which followed his unbeaten fifty from the rain-curtailed game against Trinbago Knight Riders two games before that. With all to play for against Jamaica, the aggressive player will be eager to pitch in with a match-winning knock.

All-rounder: Andre Russell (11 credits)

Russell has been plagued with injuries this CPL, and missed the last game that Jamaica played as well. However, he is expected to return for the match against Zouks, and should be slotted in right away into the Dream11 team. He is one of the biggest match-winners - if not the biggest - in the format, who can contribute with both bat and ball. He has six wickets in the competition so far, and also has two forty-plus scores that have been scored in no time.

Bowler: Fawad Ahmed (9 credits)

Fawad Ahmed is a tidy bowler, who bowled yet another economical spell in Zouks' last match as he gave away 24 runs in his four overs whilst picking up a wicket. He has nine scalps to his name thus far, and has been doing his job silently for the side.

Captain: Glenn Phillips, Fawad Ahmed
