Best NBA Bets Today (Wednesday, Jan. 7)
Tyrese Maxey over 27.5 points (-125) vs. Washington Wizards
BetMGM, 4:17 PM CT
Alex Barutha: Washington has been one of the surprise teams of the past couple weeks, going 5-2 with the 13th-ranked defense. However, I'm not quite ready to respect them to the point where I'm fading Tyrese Maxey at home. The point guard has taken at least 20 field-goal attempts in four straight games, averaging 33.0 points. These teams have faced off twice already, with Maxey averaging 37.0 PPG in those matchups.
Sandro Mamukelashvili over 10.5 points (-128) at Charlotte Hornets
DraftKings, 4:24 PM CT
Alex Barutha: Collin Murray-Boyles is getting all the attention recently for his breakout game, but I'm not giving up on Mamukelashvili playing significant minutes and making an impact. He's scored double-digit points in all but two of the past 11 games, averaging 12.3 PPG during this stretch. Like some other bad teams lately, the Hornets are playing better defense, though not to the extreme of Washington. They're still a team I'm comfortable betting against.
Stephon Castle over 17.5 points (-126) vs. Los Angeles Lakers
DraftKings, 2:54 PM CT
Nick Whalen: This is the second night of a back-to-back for both teams, so we'll have to keep a close eye on the injury report, especially as it pertains to Victor Wembanyama and LeBron James. I like this more if Wembanyama sits, but either way, this is a spot to attack the Lakers' defense, which has been among the worst in the NBA over the last few weeks. LA did hold the Pelicans to 103 points last night, but New Orleans shot 10-of-40 from three. In two previous matchups against the Lakers, Castle has 46 total points on 26 shots and 20 free throw attempts.
