2025 Fantasy Outlook
Bucking the traditional prospect path, Langford made the Rangers' Opening Day roster in spring training 2024 and debuted in the big leagues after just 44 games in the minors. The fourth overall pick in 2023, Langford struggled out of the gates last season, posting a .588 OPS through his first 31 MLB games before a right hamstring strain put him on the injured list. He would bat .300 or higher in two of the final fourth months while adding eight homers in September to bring him up to a 110 wRC+ for the season. On the strength of 98th percentile sprint speed, Langford stole 19 bases in 22 attempts. While it wasn't the Rookie of the Year campaign many expected, he showcased a highly advanced plate approach for a 22-year-old (20.6 K%, 9.2 BB%). Placed on IL with strained oblique
The Rangers placed Langford on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a right oblique strain.
ANALYSIS
Langford's oblique tightened up on him during Tuesday's loss to the Cubs, and an MRI showed enough damage that a trip to the IL was warranted. According to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, manager Bruce Bochy said Langford felt "pretty good" when he reported to the clubhouse Wednesday, but it's not yet clear how long the young outfielder might be sidelined. Kevin Pillar will start in left field for the Rangers on Wednesday and could see an expanded role while Langford is out. Josh Smith, Dustin Harris and Ezequiel Duran will also be in the mix for starts in left field.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Langford fell to the Rangers at No. 4 overall in the 2023 draft, but he could have gone 1-1 in that draft or any other to a team focused on getting a quick-to-the-majors impact bat. After slaughtering pro pitching to the tune of a .360/.480/.677 slash line with 10 home runs and 12 steals in 44 games while climbing from rookie ball to Triple-A, he now has a case as the top prospect in the game and as the top prospect to target for 2024 fantasy production. In a couple years, those elite prospects two and three years younger like Jackson Holliday and Jackson Chourio may be on Langford's level of impact, but right now he looks like a man among boys at the top of prospect lists. He posted a 117-mph exit velocity at Florida and regularly logged exit velocities north of 100 mph in pro ball. While Langford won't end up in center field, especially given the Rangers' other options, he is a plus runner who puts his speed to use on the bases and he walked more than he struck out in the SEC and in his pro debut. Given that Langford may be the favorite for AL Rookie of the Year, the Rangers are incentivized to give him a full year of service time, as it could net them a Prospect Promotion Incentive draft pick at the end of the first round in 2025.

Overall, it was a strong rookie showing for the outfielder, especially since he effectively skipped the Triple-A level before making Texas' Opening Day roster.
