2026 Fantasy Outlook
Clement is a throwback to the era of utility infielders who could also hit and play anywhere on the infield. In 15-game leagues, Clement qualifies at all four spots in the infield while standard 20-game leagues just get third, short and second. Clement shed the utility part of his label by playing in 157 games and showing he could be an asset in the Toronto lineup by scoring runs and hitting for average with some of the best contact in baseball. Only Arraez, Hoerner and Kwan have better contact rates than Clement since the start of the 2024 season (min 1,000 PA.) Clement, however is a two-category fantasy asset with his average and his runs, as long as he stays near the top of the lineup. His defense will likely keep him in the everyday lineup somewhere, but if Toronto does any upgrades to the roster, Clement's spot in the lineup could be pushed to the bottom, which then turns him into a one-category producer. Posts steal Saturday
Clement went 1-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 8-7 loss to the Padres.
Analysis
Clement extended his hitting streak to six games with the effort. This was also his first steal since May 22 and his first attempt since June 18, which suggests the hip injury that bothered him at times in June is no longer a concern. Clement is not a huge speed threat -- he's just 3-for-4 on steal attempts this season -- but he's been solid all around with a .297 average, .748 OPS, seven home runs, 30 RBI, 41 runs scored, 23 doubles and one triple over 92 contests.

How does Ernie Clement compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.
* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

2020
Clement has shown an ability to hit minor league pitching, but even that was only recently, as he had a solid season for Triple-A Buffalo around between moving to and from the big league roster. However, Clement left Triple-A in the rearview mirror in 2024 and went on to do something five other active players have done: He had an at-bat/strikeout ratio greater than 10.0 in a season of 450 or more plate appearances. Only David Fletcher, Kevin Newman, Jose Altuve and Luis Arraez (3x!) have that on their resumes. Clement, however, hit more homers than those players, with 12. Let's stay weird; despite all that contact, Clement had a poor .284 OBP because he put too many balls into play. He has dual-eligibility to the left side of the infield, but Bichette's return rules out shortstop, while Clement really is not an everyday player at third base. He is out of options, so he is all but certain to have a roster spot with the Jays. What he does with that roster spot is up to him, but he profiles more as a flexible reserve than he does an everyday corner man.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Leading all AL second basemen
Clement is the leading vote-getter among second baseman in the American League in the first 2026 MLB All-Star Game ballot update revealed Monday, according to Thomas Harrigan of MLB.com.
Analysis
Several Toronto players are ranking near the top of their respective positions after the first ballot update, but Clement is one of two -- Vladimir Guerrero being the other -- who is in first place at his position. Clement's 904,702 votes actually lead all American League infielders, with the Rangers' Ezequiel Duran a distant second with 287,996 votes. The Guardians' Travis Bazzana, the Yankees' Jazz Chisholm and the Astros' Jose Altuve all have more than 230,000 votes at second base, but none are obviously even remotely close to catching Clement.
