Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Sosa remained a very useful bench piece for the Phillies last season, posting a career-best 111 wRC+ (the product of a .276/.305/.469 slash line) while starting at four different positions including both middle-infield spots. He spent much of the year starting ahead of Bryson Stott at second base against lefties, a role he deserved given his 146 wRC+ (.318/.362/.533) against southpaws. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, his role on the Phillies' roster limited his plate appearances to 261, and his 11 homers, 30 runs, 39 RBI and one steal simply didn't move the needle in many formats. If injuries open up a temporary everyday role next season, Sosa will have more widespread fantasy relevance for a stretch, but a likely ceiling of around 300 plate appearances caps his appeal on draft day. Pops two-run homer
Sosa went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 9-4 loss to the Reds.
Analysis
Sosa's homer Wednesday is his first since the Phillies' April 14 loss to the Cubs. The utility man tends to steps into Philadelphia's lineup in favor of Bryson Stott at second base or Brandon Marsh in left field against left-handed pitching, but he hasn't been all that effective at the dish in that role. Through 79 at-bats (28 games), Sosa is hitting .228 with two big flies, three doubles, 14 RBI and two stolen bases.

How does Edmundo Sosa compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.
* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Sosa batted .275/.336/.505 in 32 games filling in for Trea Turner, earning him more action when Turner returned, mostly in a platoon capacity. His final numbers weren't as impressive with Sosa unable to find a groove playing sporadically. He was still valuable to the Phillies, playing solid defense at second base, shortstop and third base. His hard-hit and barrel rates were both career highs, but they ranked around the league average. He continued to fan too much for a player of his ilk, sporting a 24.1 percent strikeout rate, primarily due to a high 40.2 percent chase rate. Sosa's glove will garner some playing time and he's the backup at three infield spots. He's best-suited for a fantasy reserve role, with enough power and speed to be useful when playing regularly. Three-position eligibility adds to his allure.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Bigger outfield role?
Weston Wilson's oblique injury could result in more outfield opportunities for Sosa early in 2025, reports Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
Analysis
The Phillies were already planning on giving Sosa some time in the outfield during camp, but the injury provides reason for even more spring reps. Sosa has just four appearances in the outfield during his major-league career, but it could be an increased avenue to playing time, especially against lefties, against whom he had an .861 OPS during the regular season last year.
