Ben Williamson

Ben Williamson

25-Year-Old Third Baseman3B
Tampa Bay Rays
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Williamson appeared to have a chance to begin 2026 as a starting infielder for the Mariners, but his trade to the Rays complicates his path to immediate playing time. Williamson did not exactly make the most of his opportunity last season as he saw 85 games with the club and had 14 extra base hits as a rookie. Williamson has been a good contact and patient hitter in his time with the organization, but he has hit just nine homers in 825 professional plate appearances over the course of those three seasons. Williamson would ideally profile as a reserve infielder off the bench rather than an everyday starter because he has the defensive skills to play anywhere on the infield in a pinch. If you liked Matt Duffy years ago, then you'll enjoy Williamson on your roster. Mixed league managers can rightfully scroll past him in the draft room queue. Read Past Outlooks

Filling in for Walls on Sunday
3BTampa Bay Rays
June 14, 2026
Williamson will start at shortstop and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Angels.
Analysis
Williamson will draw his fifth start in six games, this time filling in for a resting Taylor Walls at shortstop. Each of Williamson's previous four starts came against left-handed pitching, and he still appears to be occupying the short side of a platoon with Richie Palacios at second base.

Heading to Tampa Bay
3BSeattle Mariners
February 2, 2026
Williamson is expected to be traded to the Rays as part of a three-team deal involving the Mariners and Cardinals, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Analysis
Brendan Donovan is headed to Seattle as the main piece in the trade, and prospects will presumably be sent to St. Louis. Williamson had been viewed as the favorite to open the season as the Mariners' starting third baseman but will now be blocked at that position in Tampa Bay by Junio Caminero. The 25-year-old Williamson is a terrific defender at the hot corner, but his bat lags well behind. He slashed just .253/.294/.310 with one homer in 85 regular-season games for the Mariners in 2025.
