Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Martin improved in his second stint in the majors and could win a platoon or reserve role this spring. Martin was once regarded as a top prospect as the fifth overall pick in 2020 but hasn't lived up to that billing. He held his own in his first trip to the majors in 2024 (94 wRC+) but wasn't overly impressive. He began last season in the minors and excelled for a second consecutive year (.319 with a .829 OPS) wrapped around missing about 10 weeks with a hamstring injury. With the Twins trading away much of their roster in July, Martin got regular duty the final two months and made the most of it by hitting .282 with a 113 wRC+. Martin has a strong command of the strike zone with low strikeout and strong walk rates in his career (12.2% BB% in the majors last season), but lacks power. He does have above average speed and offers some stolen bases for fantasy purposes which combined with a potentially high batting average could make him a low upside sleeper. Read Past Outlooks
Bats leadoff
Martin went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Thursday's loss against the Orioles. He started in left field and batted leadoff.
Analysis
It looks like Martin will bat leadoff against left-handed starters as he platoons in left field with James Outman or Trevor Larnach. Martin did make a mental error by throwing to the wrong base which led to a run, so he could be in the manager's doghouse in the short term.

Martin worked as a utility player in his first stint in the majors holding his own at the plate (94 wRC+). He was regarded as a top prospect as the fifth overall pick in 2020, but he hasn't lived up to that billing given his lack of power (.099 ISO last year in the majors). He does display strong command of the strike zone with low strikeout and strong walk rates in his career (though he drew just 7.8% BB% in the majors). He has above-average sprint speed, so he could add some stolen bases. His speed makes him an option in center field, but he graded poorly by advanced metrics. He's not seen as a strong glove at second base either, but his versatility could land him a utility job. Given his lack of power and clear position, it's hard to envision him winning an everyday job but at age 26 next season he could improve significantly given his pedigree.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Demotion incoming?
Byron Buxton is expected to return from his knee injury Saturday, reports Darren Wolfson of Channel 5 Saint Paul, at which point Martin could be optioned to Triple-A St. Paul.
Analysis
Martin rejoined the big club May 3 when Buxton landed on the injured list but has just five starts in Minnesota's 13 games during that stretch. Martin has a .224/.289/.355 slash line in 83 plate appearances and is a logical candidate to be sent down given his current role as a reserve outfielder.
