Picks up first UFC victory
Petersen defeated Mohammed Usman via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Petersen made his UFC debut this past February and wasn't very competitive in a unanimous decision loss to Jamal Pogues, but he appeared to make legitimate improvements in the span of just a few months. Petersen looked much more comfortable on the feet, firing off plenty of volume and keeping Usman off-balance for the duration of the fight. Nothing in Petersen's background suggests any prolonged winning streak is forthcoming here, but this victory ensures Petersen won't be fighting for his job his next time out.

Scheduled against TUF winner
Petersen is scheduled to compete against Mohammed Usman in a heavyweight fight at UFC Vegas 91 on July 20, per John Morgan of The Underground.
ANALYSIS
Petersen has a chance to redeem himself by defeating the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 30, recently fighting off his first UFC loss as well. Despite coming off a defeat, the 29-year-old Petersen has an 8-2 MMA record with all of his wins occurring via knockout.

Drops decision in UFC debut
Petersen lost to Jamal Pogues via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Petersen earned his UFC opportunity after showcasing his wrestling game in a win on Dana White's Contender Series last August, but he connected on just 1-of-6 takedown attempts against Pogues and was generally outclassed whenever the two men were at striking range. Petersen will probably get another fight with the company, but set to turn 29 years of age in late-March and with no notable wins on the regional scene, little should be expected moving forward.

To make UFC debut
Petersen is slated to make his UFC debut in an event on Feb. 3 against Jamal Pogues, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Peterson sports an 8-1 MMA record, but has yet to fight in the UFC. That will change when he takes on Pogues, who is 1-1 with the company. Petersen defeated Chandler Cole via submission in Round 2 of Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series to earn a contract with the UFC.

Showcases wrestling to win contract
Petersen defeated Chandler Cole via submission (keylock) at 1:08 of Round 2 at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of three fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
Peterson has a reputation for overwhelming fighters with strikes when he gets them to the ground, but "The Train" was able to notch the first submission victory of his career in this one, dominating his opponent positionally before forcing the tap. Peterson has an impressive wrestling pedigree from Iowa Central Community College and has trained with the likes of Olympic Gold Medalist Gable Stevenson, which should make him a force to be reckoned with in a division (heavyweight) that lacks high-level grapplers.
