Taking on Johns in October
Garbrandt will take on Miles Johns in a bantamweight contest at a UFC event in Las Vegas on October 12, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Garbrandt will look to bounce back from his recent submission loss to Deiveson Figueiredo when he takes on Johns in October. The 5-foot-8 American will hope to use his considerable stopping power to take down the younger Johns, as 11 of Garbrandt's 14 professional victories have come via KO/TKO.

Taps out in UFC 300 opener
Garbrandt lost to Deiveson Figueiredo via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:02 of Round 2 at UFC 300 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a tale of two fights for Cody. He looked very good in the opening frame, firing off a handful of legs kicks and getting the better of his opponent on the feet. But Garbrandt gave up an early Round 2 takedown and was quickly flattened out. He managed to survive a deep arm-triangle attempt, but ultimately tapped after Figueiredo adjusted and clamped on a rear-naked choke. Cody entered having won back-to-back fights, but both came over low-end competition in Brian Kelleher and Trevin Jones. Garbrandt, now 32 years of age, doesn't have a notable victory dating back to a June 2020 knockout of Raphael Assunaco.

Scheduled to face Figueiredo
Garbrandt will fight Deiveson Figueiredo in a bantamweight event on March 30, UFC president Dana White announced Friday.
ANALYSIS
Garbrandt is coming off a win over Brian Kelleher on Dec. 16, but facing someone like Figueredo represents a new challenge for him. After all, the Brazilian is a former flyweight champion who's taking his first steps in a new, more competitive class, and will be eager to show he belongs in 135 pounds. Garbrandt has gone 14-5-0 in his pro career, including a 9-5 mark at the UFC level.

Easily handles Brian Kelleher
Garbrandt defeated Brian Kelleher via KO (punch) at 3:42 of Round 1 at UFC 296 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This looked like an extremely attractive fight for Garbrandt from a stylistic standpoint, and it played out that way inside the Octagon. He ate a few too many damaging low kicks from Kelleher, but Cody's massive power and speed edge resulted in an easy knockout victory. Now 32 years of age, Garbrandt's offensive skills look as sharp as ever. The concern now, and moving forward, will be if his durability will hold up. It wasn't an issue against Kelleher, but it's going to be talked about every single time he steps into the Octagon against a bit better opponent.

Kelleher next opponent
Garbrandt (undisclosed) will compete against Brian Kelleher in a bantamweight fight at UFC 296 in Paradise on Dec. 16, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Garbrandt will have one more fight in 2023 after all. He was scheduled to fight Mario Bautista at the UFC's Aug. 19 event but withdrew for undisclosed reasons. Earlier in the year, Garbrandt defeated Trevin Jones to snap a brief losing streak dating back to 2021.
