January 4, 2026
Johnson completed 14 of 22 passes for 131 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Eagles. He added nine rushes for 45 yards with an additional score and a lost fumble.
ANALYSIS
Johnson drew his second consecutive start in the absence of both Jayden Daniels (elbow) and Marcus Mariota (hand). He effectively managed the offense for most of the game and orchestrated a pair of touchdown drives in the fourth quarter, which he capped off with a two-yard passing score and a one-yard rushing touchdown, to give the Commanders the win. Johnson will become a free agent this offseason, though retirement is also a possibility as he just concluded his 11th season and is set to turn 40 in May.

The 38-year-old Johnson, who entered the league in 2008, is back with the Ravens this year after serving as the third-string QB last year. Tyler Huntley left for Cleveland, so No. 2 job to Lamar Jackson should fall to Johnson this season. Johnson is the definition of journeyman, and if he has to relieve Jackson won’t blow the doors off defenses. He’s a game manager who likely will hand off a lot to new Ravens running back Derrick Henry. Wide receiver Zay Flowers and tight end Mark Andrews are top-notch targets, so perhaps Johnson’s passing numbers will be serviceable if pressed into action. He’ll need that because he’s not as mobile as he once was and likely won’t contribute much on the ground.
Johnson is back with the Ravens for the second time in three years after spending 2022 in San Francisco. The veteran journeyman adds experienced depth in the quarterback room and creates added competition for second-year quarterback, Anthony Brown, to vie for the No.3 QB spot on the roster. Tyler Huntley appears firmly entrenched as Lamar Jackson's backup, however.
Johnson signed a one-year deal with the Broncos this offseason, joining his 14th team. The 36-year-old veteran appeared in four games last season between the Jets and the Ravens, completing 57 of 85 passes for 638 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. Johnson is the favorite to be the primary backup to Russell Wilson this season, though he'll face competition from Brett Rypien, who played just three snaps as Denver's No. 3 quarterback in 2021.
Johnson was sitting on the couch when the Lions came calling after backup quarterback Tom Savage went down in the preseason with a concussion. Given Savage's history of head injuries, it's possible he could be sidelined for a while. Johnson could thus enter the season as the No. 2 option behind Matthew Stafford, though the job battle between him and David Fales for said gig could come down to the final week of exhibition play.
Johnson will compete with and likely lose to Geno Smith for the Giants backup quarterback job. It's unlikely the team will carry three QBs on its roster.
Johnson is in jeopardy of not making it past the roster cuts in 2014. The team has already stated that Blaine Gabbert will serve as the primary backup for Colin Kaepernick, and Johnson is the only remaining quarterback who is not practice squad eligible.
Johnson is expected to serve as Andy Dalton's backup in 2013.
Johnson, who is a very athletic player player at the No.2 QB position, could see a few snaps in the Wildcat or some trick plays in 2011. Don't expect much more than this unless Josh Freeman were to get hurt at some point.
Johnson is entrenched as the Buccaneers' No.2 QB and therefore will not have much fantasy value in 2010 barring an injury to starter Josh Freeman. He is still a bit raw, as evidenced by his 2009 numbers in the four starts he received as he only completed 50.4% of his passes for 685 yards, four touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He is however a great athlete, as evidenced by his 148 yards rushing on 6.7 yards per carry and has therefore been discussed by the team for use in the Wildcat.
Along with the signing of QB Byron Leftwich, the drafting of QB Josh Freeman in the first round of the NFL draft does not bode well for second-year QB Johnson being a member of the Buccaneers in 2009. Johnson will most likely have to have a strong training camp just so he can hook on with another team.
The Bucs drafted Johnson in the fifth round out of Division I-AA San Diego, where he was very effective as both a runner and a passer. This year will be a learning experience for him; hopefully, he'll see nothing but clipboard duty and get his feet wet for 2009.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Expected to start again in Week 18
QBWashington Commanders
January 1, 2026
Johnson is likely to make a second consecutive start in Week 18 against the Eagles, as head coach Dan Quinn described Marcus Mariota as "doubtful" as of Wednesday, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post.
ANALYSIS
Mariota is expected to miss a second consecutive game due to a hand injury, which kept him out of practice both Wednesday and Thursday. Jayden Daniels is out for the remainder of the season due to an elbow injury, and if Mariota joins him on the sidelines Sunday, Johnson would likely be called upon again to lead a quarterback room that also includes Jeff Driskel and Sam Hartman. Johnson started the Week 17 loss to the Cowboys and threw for 198 yards.
