2024 Fantasy Outlook
Winston was stuck as the back up in New Orleans the last couple years, but he impressed as the starter in 2021 -- 14/3 TD/INT -- before tearing an ACL in Week 8. He could be back in a starting role this season after signing a one-year deal with the Browns in March. Deshaun Watson is recovering from shoulder surgery, and while he’s reportedly made steady progress, there’s a chance he’s not ready for Week 1. Assuming Winston beats out fellow free-agent acquisition Tyler Huntley, he’ll have a solid group of playmakers to exploit. The Browns added Jerry Jeudy this offseason to form an excellent WR trio with Amari Cooper and Elijah Moore, in addition to tight end Davis Njoku and running back Nick Chubb (though Chubb is coming off a knee injury). At 30, Winston probably isn’t as mobile as he once was, but he should still add some rushing upside. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Inactive as third QB
Winston (shoulder) is inactive as the Browns' emergency No. 3 quarterback for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Kevin Stefanski announced Wednesday that Winston's seven-game run atop the depth chart would come to an end, with Dorian Thompson-Robinson replacing Winston as the team's starting quarterback. Winston then proceeded to open the week as a full practice participant, but the right shoulder injury resulted in him being a limited participant Thursday and Friday. Though the injury doesn't appear to be too significant, the Browns won't ask Winston to push through the issue while the team already had another quarterback (Bailey Zappe) on its active roster. Zappe will serve as Thompson-Robinson's top backup Sunday, but Winston could move into the No. 2 role next week if his shoulder shows improvement.

Winston once seemed like a long-term option at quarterback for the Saints after spending one year as the understudy to Drew Brees. But Winston battled back fractures early last season, leading him to lose the starting job to Andy Dalton after Week 3 for the remainder of the campaign. With Derek Carr signed to a four-year, $150 million contract this offseason, Winston's time in New Orleans looked to be over before he agreed to a restructured contract in March. As a result, the 29-year-old Winston will enter the 2023 season as a backup alongside dual-threat veteran Taysom Hill and rookie fourth-rounder Jake Haener.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Might get benched
Winston could be replaced by Dorian Thompson-Robinson as the Browns' starting quarterback in Week 16 against the Bengals, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Winston has thrown eight interceptions over the last three games, including three in a Week 15 loss to Kansas City, and he was replaced by Thompson-Robinson late in Sunday's defeat. Perhaps more importantly, the 3-11 Browns have already been eliminated from the playoffs, and Winston is a free agent in the offseason, while Thompson-Robinson will still be on his rookie contract in 2025 and could be part of the QB picture for the team.
