2026 Fantasy Outlook
Stroud hoped to bounce back last season, but instead it was a near repeat of his disappointing 2024. He was two yards shy of matching his passing yards per game (a paltry 217.2) and was one off the pace on TD passes with a career-low 19. For the second year in a row, Stroud struggled throwing deep. He completed just 31.0 percent (24th) of attempts of at least 20 yards and had almost as many interceptions (4) as TDs (5) on those passes. His two-year trend on deep passing is stunning. Stroud had 30 completions on 51 deep attempts as a rookie. The last two years combined, he’s had 31 completions on 100 attempts. In other words, the same number of deep completions on twice the number of attempts. It gets worse: As a rookie, he had an 8:0 TD:INT on such attempts; the last two years combined, it’s an 8:10 TD:INT. It’s hard to blame Houston's receivers, who dropped just three of Stroud's deep passes and ranked 11th in downfield open rate (9.7%). Better health would help, though. Nico Collins has not played a full season in his five-year career, and Tank Dell missed all of last season with a knee injury. Perhaps Jayden Higgins or Jaylin Noel will blossom in Year 2. The offensive line improved a bit last year, and the Texans rebuilt it further this offseason with free agents RG Wyatt Teller and RT Braden Smith and first-round pick Keylan Rutledge. The Texans picked up Stroud’s fifth-year option for 2027 ($25.9 million), but they may start making other plans next offseason if his 2026 looks anything like the past two years. Read Past Outlooks

Shedding weight
Stroud improved his diet this offseason in an effort to lose weight, according to DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
Stroud shouldn't lack for motivation, coming off a 2025 campaign in which he and his offensive line were the weak links on an otherwise loaded team. The Texans then picked up his fifth-year option this offseason, though it's not equivalent to a huge vote of confidence when the price tag ($25.9 million) is lower than what it costs to re-sign even a mediocre starting QB. There's still hope in Houston that Stroud can be more than mediocre, with help from a remade offensive line that added first-round pick Keylan Rutledge and veterans Braden Smith, Wyatt Teller and Evan Brown. The combination of better blocking and a locked-in QB could do wonders for Houston's offense, but even a slimmed-down version of Stroud is unlikely to offer much in the way of rushing stats for his fantasy managers.

After finishing QB9 in fantasy during his rookie season, Stroud took a steep step back last year to QB18. Injuries to key players and a turnstile offensive line made life difficult. Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins and Tank Dell played just four games together thanks to injuries, and Stroud was pressured on 38.6 percent of his dropbacks (4th in NFL) and sacked 52 times (2nd). While his accuracy numbers more or less held steady, Stroud struggled with interceptions, unlike his first year when he threw five. He finished with 12 INTs after a particularly bad stretch in the second half when he posted a 9:8 TD:INT in the last eight games. A league-high six of his interceptions came on attempts of 20-plus yards -- after none the previous year. The Texans remade their offensive line this offseason, but it’s arguably worse without LT Laremy Tunsil, who was traded to Washington. The Texans signed mediocre veterans like Cam Robinson, Trent Brown and Laken Tomlinson, before drafting OT Aireontae Ersery in the second round. For the receivers, Diggs is gone and Dell may miss most of the season after major knee surgery in January, so the Texans drafted Jayden Higgins in the second round and Jaylin Noel in the third. Higgins is 6-foot-4, 212 pounds, with 4.47 speed, and Noel has field-stretching 4.38 speed. They also signed Christian Kirk, giving Stroud a number of quality options. A bounce-back season is possible, if he can stay upright.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
At crossroads for 2026
Stroud had one of the worst performances of his career in the Texans' AFC Divisional Round loss to the Patriots in January, and Nick Shook of NFL.com believes that the 24-year-old quarterback's long-term outlook will depend on how he performs in 2026.
ANALYSIS
Stroud burst onto the NFL scene, winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award for the 2023 season. He regressed in 2024 -- in part due to a porous offensive line -- but he wasn't much better in 2025, which was capped off by his four-interception playoff performance against New England. Stroud's fifth-year option for 2027 was picked up by the Texans in April, but any hopes of a substantial long-term contract rest on how the Ohio State product performs in 2026.
