Shedding weight
Stroud improved his diet this offseason in an effort to lose weight, according to DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
Stroud shouldn't lack for motivation, coming off a 2025 campaign in which he and his offensive line were the weak links on an otherwise loaded team. The Texans then picked up his fifth-year option this offseason, though it's not some huge vote of confidence when the price tag ($25.9 million) is lower than what it costs to re-sign even a mediocre starting QB. There's still hope in Houston that Stroud can be more than mediocre, with help from a remade offensive line that added first-round pick Keylan Rutledge and veterans Braden Smith, Wyatt Teller and Evan Brown. The combination of better blocking and a locked-in QB could do wonders for Houston's offense, but even a slimmed-down version of Stroud is unlikely to offer much in the way of rushing stats for his fantasy managers.

After finishing QB9 in fantasy during his rookie season, Stroud took a steep step back last year to QB18. Injuries to key players and a turnstile offensive line made life difficult. Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins and Tank Dell played just four games together thanks to injuries, and Stroud was pressured on 38.6 percent of his dropbacks (4th in NFL) and sacked 52 times (2nd). While his accuracy numbers more or less held steady, Stroud struggled with interceptions, unlike his first year when he threw five. He finished with 12 INTs after a particularly bad stretch in the second half when he posted a 9:8 TD:INT in the last eight games. A league-high six of his interceptions came on attempts of 20-plus yards -- after none the previous year. The Texans remade their offensive line this offseason, but it’s arguably worse without LT Laremy Tunsil, who was traded to Washington. The Texans signed mediocre veterans like Cam Robinson, Trent Brown and Laken Tomlinson, before drafting OT Aireontae Ersery in the second round. For the receivers, Diggs is gone and Dell may miss most of the season after major knee surgery in January, so the Texans drafted Jayden Higgins in the second round and Jaylin Noel in the third. Higgins is 6-foot-4, 212 pounds, with 4.47 speed, and Noel has field-stretching 4.38 speed. They also signed Christian Kirk, giving Stroud a number of quality options. A bounce-back season is possible, if he can stay upright.

Has fifth-year option picked up
Stroud's fifth-year option was picked up by the Texans on Wednesday, DJ Bien-Aime and Field Yates of ESPN.com report.
ANALYSIS
The move locks in a fully guaranteed $25.9 million salary for Stroud for the 2026 season. The 2023 second overall pick is now under contract through 2027, but it's a virtual certainty Stroud and the Texans will come to an agreement on a contract extension at some point over the next year. However, according to Bien-Aime's report, league sources indicate fellow 2023 first-round pick Will Anderson's contract extension is of higher priority than Stroud's.
