2026 Fantasy Outlook
Olave's career year was one of the feel-good stories of 2025, after repeated trips to concussion protocol had left his playing future in doubt just a year earlier. He nearly played all 17 games last season, missing only Week 18 to be treated for a blood clot in his lung (he's expected to be fine). Olave finished north of 1,000 yards for a third time in four NFL seasons, recording career highs for targets (156), catches (100), yards (1,163) and touchdowns (nine), whereas he finished with career lows for yards per target (7.5) and yards per catch (11.6). Olave led the NFL with 33 targets and six TDs on passes thrown 20-plus yards downfield, though he left something on the table with three drops. He also made an impact on intermediate throws (350 yards, three TDs), but Olave's 74 targets within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage were empty calories. He caught 63 of those (85.1 percent), but for just 6.1 YPR, with zero TDs and 18 first downs (24.3 percent). It worked well for PPR fantasy managers, but not so well for the Saints. In Olave's defense, it's no secret he's far better at running routes and making catches than he is at picking up additional yards after the catch. The Saints now hope to direct some of those short targets to their new additions, namely rookie wideout Jordyn Tyson and veteran running back Travis Etienne. Added competition isn't ideal for Olave's fantasy value, especially in PPR leagues, but it can work out alright if QB Tyler Shough plays well and pushes the ball downfield. Read Past Outlooks

Talking extension with New Orleans
Saints GM Mickey Loomis said Monday that talks with Olave (illness) regarding a contact extension have been positive, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
"Obviously we'd love to have something done sooner than later, and I'm sure Chris would, as well, but we're not there yet," Loomis said. Olave is headed into the final year of his rookie deal and is set to play on the fifth-year team option for $15.493 million in 2026 if the sides are unable to come to an agreement. After appearing in just eight games in 2024 due to concussion issues, Olave played in 16 regular-season contests last season before missing the Week 18 finale with a blood clot in his lung. Olave ended up having a career year, posting 100 catches for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns on 156 targets, all career highs for the 25-year-old. Olave is likely to command north of $33 million per year on a new contract.

Olave has looked the part of a first-round pick since New Orleans took him 11th overall in 2024, but he's never reached superstar status and now is in danger of having his career shortened by concussions. He has four on record in three NFL seasons, including two last year that limited him to eight games and led the Saints to shut him down even when reports suggested he technically could've played the final week or two. Olave had a pair of 1,000-yard seasons before that, both times with an aDOT above 13.0 and YPT above 8.0, with especially strong numbers on intermediate targets. His 4.39 speed also demands deep-ball respect, although Olave's yet to play in an offense that's made the most of that potential strength. He'll be in a new system this year, led by HC Kellen Moore and OC Doug Nussmeier, without much in the way of target competition besides RB Alvin Kamara and fellow wideout Rashid Shaheed (coming back from a meniscus tear). The issue lies under center, where second-round rookie Tyler Shough and 2024 fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler are the top candidates to start Week 1. The combination of concussion and QB concerns puts Olave's fantasy rank much lower than where he'd be if we evaluated on talent alone.

Dealing with illness
Olave missed Wednesday's practice due to an illness, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The star receiver has recently been managing a back injury, but Wednesday's illness was a new issue for the fourth-year star. Given the mid-week timing of the illness and Olave's unblemished attendance record this season, it appears highly unlikely he'll miss Sunday's regular-season finale against the Falcons. Olave will look to wrap up what is already a career-best campaign by posting a third straight 100-yard effort.
