St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Barbados Tridents: CPL Match 8 Preview

St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Barbados Tridents: CPL Match 8 Preview

Match details

Series/tournament name: Caribbean Premier League 2019

Venuee: Basseterre, St Kitts

Date: 11 September , 2019

Time: 3:30 a.m. IST

Preview:

While the Patriots have lost both their matches, Barbados Tridents have lost their only game in the season so far. Only two teams have notched up wins in the Caribbean Premier League season so far and these two teams get a chance to become the third as they tussle it out at St Kitts on Wednesday. Batting was the issue for both sides in their matches so far this season but both have potent line-ups and will hope their men step up to the task.

Weather report: Humidity is high but the weather is clear for this fixture.

Pitch report: The pitch is expected to be on the slower side although with the new ball it could nip around a bit. Batting won't be overly tough, though and both teams will want to get off to a flying start.

Injuries and replacements:

No known injuries

Probable Playing XI:

Barbados Tridents:

The explosive power of Alex Hales and Johnson Charles at the top is Barbados' biggest plus. Add in the experience of Jean-Paul Duminy and Jason Holder and the explosiveness of Jonathan Carter and Ashley Nurse and you have a decent batting line-up. Can they click in sync, though? They are likely to be unchanged for this fixture.

Alex Hales, Johnson Charles, Leniko Boucher, Jean-Paul Duminy, Jonathan Carter, Jason Holder, Ashley Nurse, Roshon

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The Patriots have a scary bowling line-up led by the charismatic Sheldon Cottrell. Add in Alzarri Joseph and Fabian Allen and there is a lot of local flavour to like. The batting is packed with big hitters and if at least two of them have a field day, they should be a difficult team to beat.

Kjorn Ottley, Evin Lewis, Mohammad Hafeez, Jason Mohammed, Devon Thomas, Carlos Brathwaite, Fabian Allen, Usama Mir, Rayad Emrit, Alzarri Joseph, Sheldon Cottrell,

Top picks:

Wicket-keeper: Devon Thomas (8.5 credits)

Thomas got into his rhythm in the first game with a 49-ball 62 and should be the first choice in your fantasy team in the wicket-keeping category. A fine striker of the ball with a thinking capability, Thomas could be a key figure in Patriots' plans for this season.

Batsman: Alex Hales (10 credits)

He made a first ball duck in the only game this season but Hales is a destructive force that is hard to contain once he gets going. The tall opener will be banked upon to combine with Johnson Charles and create havoc at the top. Expect the Englishman to fire this game.

All-rounder: Jean-Paul Duminy (9 credits)

An underrated T20 player, Duminy is an exceptional player with incredible skills. An all-rounder in the true sense, Duminy's off-spin should be as handy as his middle-order expertise. Even if he misses out once, it is unlikely he won't make up in the other departments. Captain him without batting your eyelid for this fixture.

Bowler: Alzarri Joseph (8.5 credits)

Joseph has probably been overshadowed by Cottrell so far but the fiery young seamer can run through a line-up on his day. You can have Cottrell of course but do not miss out on Joseph who could have a field day once he gets going. Mumbai Indians know.

Captaincy options: Jean-Paul Duminy, Sheldon Cottrell, Alex Hales
