Quarterback
Jeremiah Masoli, HAM vs. BC ($11,400): Masoli generated a 5:0 TD:INT in two games against the Lions this season while also racking up a combined 500 yards. BC actually looks pretty impressive on paper against the pass, but they have exhibited a vulnerability to the deep ball that dovetails perfectly for fantasy purposes with Masoli's big-play tendencies. BC has allowed the second-most completions of over 20 yards (45), including 27 of over 30 yards. Meanwhile, Masoli averaged a career-high 9.1 yards per attempt this season and racked up 29 completions of over 30 yards. He also compiled a league-high 12 tallies of more than 300 passing yards, making him worthy of the investment in the do-or-die matchup on a small slate.
Travis Lulay, BC at HAM ($8,900): With only four quarterback choices on the slate and the Roughriders currently non-committal about who they'll roll out under center, Lulay presents as an appealing option if you're paying down. Lulay missed quite a bit of games due to injuries, but he displayed a penchant for the big play. He compiled an impressive 24 completions of over 30 yards on 187 total completions, a prolific ratio that meshes well with the Tiger-Cats' vulnerability to the big play through the air. Hamilton allowed a CFL-high 21 touchdowns and 139.8 passer efficiency rating on pass attempts of over 20 yards during the regular season, which could set up well for Lulay to hit on a chunk play or two.
Running Back
Alex Green, HAM vs. BC ($8,100): Andrew Harris ($7,800) is also interesting near the top tier at running back, but he's got a tough matchup against the Roughriders, which limited him to 57 yards on 20 rushes over two games this season. Meanwhile, Green has fresh legs after only playing two games since Week 14 due to an arm injury, and he's displayed excellent per-touch efficiency in the contests he has suited up for. Green averaged just under 19.0 fantasy points per game during the regular season, and he logged multiple receptions in each of his last five games. The Lions also allowed the third-most rushing yards per game (113.8), third-highest yards per carry (5.4) and third-most rushes of over 20 yards (14), furthering Green's case if you're paying up at running back.
Cameron Marshall, SSK vs. WPG ($6,000): Marshall exploded for 134 rushing yards in Week 20 against the Lions, which was preceded by a solid 11-carry, 76-yard effort versus the Stampeders in Week 19. That should keep him firmly in the lead-back role for the first-round playoff tilt against the Blue Bombers, which tied with the Eskimos for the most rushing touchdowns allowed (20). As with Green, Marshall should have a bit more spring in his step than the average back at this point in the season, considering he only suited up for three games in the 2018 campaign. While Marcus Thigpen is slated to share some carries, the latter is best suited as a change-of-pace option and shouldn't impact Marshall's ability to once again log double-digit carries.
Wide Receiver/Slotback
Luke Tasker, HAM vs. BC ($9,700): Tasker should see no shortage of targets from Masoli with Brandon Banks (collarbone) unavailable. The sure-handed veteran averaged an impressive 17.8 fantasy points per game during the regular season, including 18.55 at home. He posted totals of 14.7 and 12.3 fantasy points versus the Lions in two regular-season meetings, and he'll be in a good position to capitalize on BC's previously referenced vulnerability to the big play. Tasker tied for the CFL lead with 11 receiving touchdowns, posted five receptions of over 20 yards, and generated a solid 69.2 percent catch rate on the 13 targets of over 20 yards he saw.
DeVier Posey, BC at HAM ($6,500): Posey's teammate Bryan Burnham ($7,800) is also interesting if you've got the cash to spend, but Posey offers similar upside at $1,300 cheaper. He seems to have developed a solid niche within the Lions offense despite not having played his first game until Week 14, logging between three and five receptions in seven of eight contests. Seven of his 29 catches came in two games versus the Ti-Cats, and as he demonstrated in a season-best five-reception, 113-yard, three-touchdown effort against the Eskimos in Week 19, he's highly capable of the big play that Hamilton has given up through the air frequently this season.
Weston Dressler, WPG at SSK ($6,200): Those looking for additional or cheaper exposure than Tasker to the Tiger-Cats passing attack could also pivot to Hamilton's Mike Jones at this same price, but Dressler shapes up as an appealing mid-tier option in his own right. The veteran has been solid when he's been on the field, averaging 10.4 fantasy points per game while bringing in five touchdown receptions. One of those scores came as part of a two-catch, 51-yard effort against the Riders in Week 18. Dressler posted multi-catch games in 11 contests overall this season, and Saskatchewan allowed the most completions of over 20 yards (48) in the CFL, including 31 over 30 yards.
Team Defense
Saskatchewan Roughriders vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers ($4,600): The Riders gave Matt Nichols some trouble in two regular-season games, limiting him to 24-for-44 passing, 321 yards and a 2:2 TD:INT. Saskatchewan also tied with multiple teams for most sacks (45), forced the most two-and-outs (107) and tied with the Redblacks for second-most turnovers forced (41) during the regular season, with the latter figure including a CFL-high 21 interceptions. They were at their best at home as well, averaging 16.44 fantasy points over nine games (as compared to 8.56 on the road) and scoring a whopping 11 defensive touchdowns at Mosaic Stadium. The fact they compiled a season-high 25.0 fantasy points in Week 11 against this same Bombers squad – a total they generated with three sacks, five interceptions and two defensive scores – solidifies their case as the top unit among the four choices this week.
