Rest-of-Season Projections
Scooped up by Mets via waivers
The Mets claimed Short off waivers from the Tigers on Monday.
Analysis
Short had been designated for assignment late last week. The 31-year-old does not have minor-league options remaining, so he will report directly to the Mets and provide some experienced infield depth.

Playing all over
Short is expected to play three infield positions and the outfield for Detroit, reports Evan Woodbery of MLive.com.
Analysis
Short hit ninth and played second Tuesday in his return to Detroit from the minors. The 27-year-old made starts at five different positions for Triple-A Toledo this season and is expected to play all over the diamond for the Tigers. The utilityman hit .231/.355/.398 with 11 homers and 11 stolen bases in 102 games for the Mud Hens this season. He made his big-league debut last year for the Tigers, and after a strong start, hit just .106/.185/.235 with 47 strikeouts over his final 151 plate appearances. With Jonathan Schoop out with an ankle injury, Short may get some regular playing time and the chance to prove he can hit in the majors.
