2026 Fantasy Outlook
Kikuchi had a mixed debut with the Angels in 2025. He made all his scheduled starts for a third consecutive season and worked over 165 innings for a third consecutive season as well. He did continue to lean into his newfound love of his slider that Houston encouraged after acquiring him in 2024, but Kikuchi also embraced the Los Angeles Angels' culture of mediocrity and did little else to help fantasy managers. He won just 21 percent of his starts because a 1.42 WHIP led to too much traffic that the bullpen often could not keep on the bases when he came out of games. The 174 strikeouts were helpful, but the 3.99 ERA not so much. It is apparent the Angels are not going to be any better anytime soon, so fantasy managers would be wise to consider Kikuchi for his strikeouts in the endgame of drafts if they are looking to bolster that category, because recent history provides little confidence the wins or the ratios will be of much help. Hit hard in no-decision
Kikuchi didn't factor into the decision Monday against the Yankees, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three over 3.1 innings.
Analysis
Kikuchi ran into trouble early in both the first and second innings, allowing leadoff baserunners before serving up homers to Aaron Judge and Trent Grisham, respectively. The left-hander was pulled in the fourth after issuing a walk to Paul Goldschmidt, ending another disappointing start. The 34-year-old has now allowed at least four runs in each of his last three outings, and his season numbers have taken a hit as a result. Through 18 innings, Kikuchi owns a 7.50 ERA, 1.89 WHIP and a 19:10 K:BB.

An artificially high ERA masks Kikuchi's best season since he's come overseas. His 4.05 ERA is almost a run higher than estimated by a 3.20 xFIP and 3.30 SIERA. An MLB career-high 28.0 percent strikeout rate and career-low 6.0 percent walk rate generated the league's sixth best K-BB percentage among qualified hurlers. Kikuchi's 1.28 HR/9 was also a personal best in a full season since he left Japan. He was especially impressive after being dealt to the Astros, as Kikuchi registered a 2.70 ERA and 0.93 WHIP over 10 starts. Kikuchi didn't alter his pitch mix or distribution, but he did take a tick or two off his change-up and curveball, increasing the delta from his 95.5-mph four-seam fastball. Optimism is warranted, but Kikuchi will turn 34 years old in the middle of the season and is more likely to take a step back than repeat last year's exploits. He signed a three-year deal with the Angels -- a clear step down in team context -- so his fantasy price tag will be reasonable relative to how he pitched down the stretch in 2024.

Garners All-Star nod
Kikuchi has been selected to participate in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game.
Analysis
Kikuchi is having an excellent season in his first year with the Angels, as the veteran hurler owns a 3.02 ERA across 107.1 innings over 19 starts in 2025. If he's able to maintain that figure, he'd end up posting a career-best mark in that category. The 1.38 WHIP isn't encouraging, though, as it's his second-highest figure in that category over the last six seasons.
