Abreu's .825 OPS facing righties compared to a .532 mark versus lefties resulted in Abreu collecting 85 percent of his plate appearances against right-handers. Even with the smattering of action without the platoon edge, Abreu posted a 94th percentile hard hit rate and 86th percentile barrel rate. A 28.2 percent strikeout rate facing righties dampened Abreu's production. He fanned at a slightly lower clip against southpaws, but his quality of contact was weak. Abreu's league-leading 18 defensive runs saved in right field along with nine assists earned him a Gold Glove. His defensive prowess may help earn more playing time, but it's best to plan on reduced playing time. Abreu outpointed his xBA and xSLG, but playing in Fenway Park often skews the expected algorithms. There may be some regression, but Abreu's quality of contact is solid.
