2026 Fantasy Outlook
The Reds optioned Marte to Triple-A Louisville to begin 2025 after he struggled mightily in 2024 following his return from a PED suspension. Upon his return to the majors, Marte made an immediate impact with a 1.127 OPS in his first 13 big-league games of the season. A Grade 2 left oblique strain put Marte on the shelf shortly thereafter, costing him close to two months. He continued to play well following his activation from the IL before hitting the skids in September, with the slump costing him a bit of playing time down the stretch. Through 191 career games across parts of three seasons, Marte has put up 21 homers to go along with 25 steals, offering a glimpse of what could be for the former top prospect. Still just 24 years old, Marte brings dual eligibility to the table, qualifying at third base and outfield for 2026. Read Past Outlooks
Homers again Sunday
Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Analysis
Marte tied the game in the sixth inning with a 448-foot blast of Zac Gallen, his third homer of the year, all of which have come in his last three games. The 24-year-old Marte has seen steady playing time in the outfield since returning to the majors earlier this month. He's gone 8-for-26 (.308) with a 1.049 OPS in nine games since his recall after slashing just .138/.194/.138 across 11 contests earlier in the season. One major difference between how Marte is hitting now compared to earlier this season is that he's not chasing balls outside the zone, per C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic. During his initial stint, he had 10 strikeouts over 31 plate appearances compared to just five in 28 PAs since his recall.

Marte was suspended 80 games by Major League Baseball in March for violating the joint drug prevention and treatment program. Despite a rough offensive showing during his rehab assignment, Marte was brought back to the Reds' active roster on the first day he was eligible, debuting with a three-hit game June 27. He finished with an ugly .210/.248/.301 line across 242 plate appearances. Once a top prospect and centerpiece of the Luis Castillo trade, Marte has lost some of that shine in the last calendar year, but the 23-year-old still has time to regain the goodwill of the fans and trust of the front office. While his limited range at third base leaves some question about his future at the position, the power-speed combo and hitter-friendly park give him some buy-low appeal entering 2025. First things first, he will have to earn his keep under new manager Terry Francona.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Primarily playing third base
Marte has primarily been playing third base during early workouts at Reds camp, per Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Analysis
Marte exclusively played shortstop in the minors last year, but he made the transition to the hot corner in the Arizona Fall League and drew solid reviews for his defensive work there. Nightengale notes that "scouts see his future at third base compared to shortstop," as his "body type is similar to Manny Machado." The 21-year-old is still widely viewed as a top 100 overall prospect in the sport.
