2026 Fantasy Outlook
The 19th overall pick in 2022, Susac was the only position player selected in this year's Rule 5 Draft, ending up moving from the Athletics to San Francisco, where his older brother Andrew worked as Buster Posey's backup a decade ago. The 6-foot-4, righty-hitting 24-year-old spent all of 2025 at Triple-A, slashing .275/.349/.483 with 18 home runs and seven steals in 97 games. In the Pacific Coast League, that slash line is actually below league average (95 wRC+), and we shouldn't expect anything close to that level of production against big-league pitching. He struck out at a 26.8 percent clip as an older Triple-A hitter, so Susac should be expected to hit well below .250 in the majors. The Giants clearly have the backup catcher spot available for Susac, so with a strong camp he could spend the entire year on the big-league roster playing sparingly behind Patrick Bailey. Wins backup catcher job
The Giants named Susac to their Opening Day roster Wednesday.
Analysis
A Rule 5 Draft selection over the winter, Susac was able to beat out Jesus Rodriguez and non-roster invitee Eric Haase for the No. 2 catcher job during spring training. So long as top backstop Patrick Bailey is healthy, Susac will likely play sparingly, and the Giants will need to stash him on the major-league roster throughout the season, or else he'll have to be offered back to the Athletics. The 24-year-old showed some potential with the bat in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League last season with a .275/.350/.486 slash line to go with 18 home runs and seven stolen bases across 403 plate appearances, though he struck out at a 26.8 percent clip.
