Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Thomas has put up some gaudy minor league statisticas over the past three seasons, but that has not yet translated to much major league success. Thomas hit 31 homers with a .277 average between Double-A and Triple-A in 2024 and hit .291/.366/.529 with 18 homers in Las Vegas around some back-and-forth callups call-ups Sacramento. Thomas hit .225/.267/.417 with the Athletics with far too many strikeouts, as he struck out 49 times in 120 at bats. He has show the ability to make hard contact and has the athleticsm to man all three spots in the outfield, but he is best used at a corner spot where his arm strength is a deterrent to opponents attempting to take the extra base. If Thomas cannot make better contact at the big league level, he is going to be limited to a reserve outfield role and a short-sided one at that. All six of his home runs came against lefties while he had just one walk and 24 strikeouts against righties in 59 at bats. Read Past Outlooks
Misses out on Opening Day roster
The Athletics optioned Thomas to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday.
Analysis
With Lawrence Butler (knees) making his Cactus League debut this past week to clear up any concern about his readiness for Opening Day, the Athletics didn't have regular playing time in the outfield available for Thomas to begin the season. Rather than keeping Thomas around as a platoon bat, the Athletics will let the 25-year-old continue his development at Las Vegas, where he'll be able to play on an everyday basis. Thomas should rank near the top of the list for a call-up if the Athletics have an opening in the outfield or at designated hitter at any point.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Thomas isn't a perfect prospect, but he's big-league ready and has a chance to hit 20-plus homers with double-digit steals if he gets enough playing time as a rookie. He tallied 31 homers and 15 steals in 132 games split between Double-A and Triple-A. While his slash lines were similar and his ISO was almost identical at the two levels, Thomas' strikeout rate jumped from 18 percent at Double-A to 30.3 percent at Triple-A. His walk rate also jumped slightly from 6.5 percent to 7.3 percent, and the balls and strikes challenge system at Triple-A may have factored into both metrics going up. Given that Thomas was 23, what he did at Triple-A is more instructive for 2025 than what he did at Double-A, so don't expect him to hit north of .250. He's a quality defensive outfielder, capable of playing all three spots, and he bats right-handed, so Thomas could conceivably gain everyday playing time early this season.
