Carlos Narvaez

26-Year-Old CatcherC
Boston Red Sox
2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Red Sox were already in the market for potential backup catchers when they shipped prosect Kyle Teel to the White Sox as part of the package to acquire Garrett Crochet. Narvaez was first of two backstops acquired via trade during the offseason, and he'll compete with the second acquisition, Blake Sobol, to back up Connor Wong. Sabol (121 games) has more MLB experience than Narvaez (six), but the latter was better in the minors at throwing out would-be base stealers. Wong has been durable since elevating to Boston's top catcher, playing 126 games in each of the last two seasons. The victor in the Narvaez/Sabol battle is not expected to get many starts. Narvaez is expected to serve as the team's starting catcher after it was announced Monday that Connor Wong (finger) will require a stint on the 10-day injured list, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Narvaez saw his four-game hitting streak snapped Monday after entering the game for Wong, though he's still off to a strong start to the 2025 campaign, now 6-for-18 with four RBI and two runs scored in five games. Narvaez is expected to handle the majority of the catching duties while Wong recovers from a fractured left pinky finger, while Blake Sabol is in line to serve as the backup catcher.

Slated for bigger role

April 8, 2025
Narvaez is expected to handle a bigger role at catcher following the finger injury sustained by Connor Wong, Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors speculates.
ANALYSIS
The Red Sox placed Wong on the 10-day injured list after he broke his left pinkie finger on a catcher's interference during Monday's loss to the Blue Jays, and Narvaez is now slated to experience an uptick in his playing time while Wong is out. Narvaez hit .254/.370/.412 with 11 homers over 96 Triple-A contests in 2024, and he's posted a slash line of .333/.455/.500 with six hits in 18 at-bats ahead of Tuesday's slate.
