2026 Fantasy Outlook
Narvaez was acquired from the Yankees in a rare trade between longtime AL East rivals and opened the season as Connor Wong's backup, but Wong's early injury and subsequent struggles allowed Narvaez to seize the regular catching job. He delivered a modest 97 wRC+ yet still batted cleanup for a month during a strong second-half run. His barrel and hard-hit rates sit slightly above average, though his aggressive chase tendencies create too much swing-and-miss and cap his offensive output. Narvaez is slated to be the primary catcher this season, and while Wong held that role a year ago before regressing, Narvaez offers a stronger skill set and is the superior defender, even finishing as a Gold Glove finalist. He profiles as a cost-effective No. 2 catcher in mixed leagues. Read Past Outlooks
Sitting third straight
Narvaez isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Analysis
Narvaez will miss a third consecutive start Saturday after posting a .409 OPS through his first 12 games of the season. Connor Wong, on the other hand, owns a 1.006 OPS through eight games and may have finally surpassed Narvaez as Boston's primary starter at catcher.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Red Sox were already in the market for potential backup catchers when they shipped prosect Kyle Teel to the White Sox as part of the package to acquire Garrett Crochet. Narvaez was first of two backstops acquired via trade during the offseason, and he'll compete with the second acquisition, Blake Sobol, to back up Connor Wong. Sabol (121 games) has more MLB experience than Narvaez (six), but the latter was better in the minors at throwing out would-be base stealers. Wong has been durable since elevating to Boston's top catcher, playing 126 games in each of the last two seasons. The victor in the Narvaez/Sabol battle is not expected to get many starts.
