Cairns has signed a new two-year contract with Leeds United, extending his stay at Elland Road through 2028, per the club's statement.

Cairns came through Leeds' academy and made his debut for the club in the 2011-12 season before leaving in 2015 for spells elsewhere, including productive loan spells. He returned to Elland Road in the summer of 2024 from Salford City, having played every league fixture for the Ammies the previous season. Since rejoining Leeds, the 33-year-old goalkeeper has remained an ever-present part of Daniel Farke's matchday squad and has racked up more than 300 career appearances. The new deal keeps him on as an experienced option in the goalkeeping group.
